Tombot, a leader in the robotic animal space, unveiled their fully-autonomous and hyper-realistic Labrador puppy robot at CES. Jennie was created after CEO Tom Stevens had to re-home his mother’s dog as she experienced dementia. By providing a sense of companionship and comfort, Jennie offers support for those suffering from dementia or facing mental health challenges—without the typical struggles of pet ownership.
Meet Jennie
Thanks to cutting-edge technology, Jennie looks, feels, and interacts just like a real puppy. With design by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and patent-pending architecture, Jennie has realistic, soft fur and head movements that mimic a real dog.
Embedded touch sensors react to human touch based on location and intensity, producing puppy-like reactions including authentic sounds recorded from 8-10 week old Labradors.
Advanced AI technology also allows Jennie to understand and react to commands: If you tell her to speak, she’ll bark!
Convenient companionship
Despite the realistic appearance and behavior, caring for Jennie is simple. The battery is designed to last all day and recharges overnight with a simple plug into any wall outlet. She can be cleaned with a damp washcloth and mild soap—much easier than bathing other puppies!
The free Tombot app also allows users to reconfigure settings and even rename their dog. Jennie will follow by responding to that name. Regular software updates will be provided through the app for new commands and actions, allowing Jennie to evolve with user needs.
Priced at just $449, Jennie is the most realistic and affordable robotic dog available. With more than 7,500 preorders from homes, hospitals, and care facilities, Jennie will be providing comfort and care for many.
