Before it was nudged into retirement a few weeks back, the original Roku Streaming Stick was selling for about $40. It was an exceptionally reasonable price for a gadget that provided the full power of a Roku box in a pocketable package.

Well, the brand-new Streaming Stick (codename: 3600R) is already selling for a dollar less—just $39 at Amazon.com, or $11 off the $49.99 MSRP.

We haven’t tested the new Streaming Stick, but we think it sounds like a pretty sweet deal. For the reasonable entry fee, you get the Roku 3’s nifty “private listening” mode and voice search capability, both via the new Roku smartphone/tablet app. You also get the latest version of Roku OS, which features lots of usability improvements.

All in all, it’s a great deal for a device that can hold its own against certain fruit-branded streaming boxes that cost more than twice as much.
