When it came to TVs, Panasonic was something of a slumbering giant throughout 2015. The company's CES presence that year was almost non-existent, and the death of plasma left a black hole in Panasonic's TV lineup that its LED LCD TVs have yet to fill.
But it looks like the company isn't giving up yet, if its 2016 TV line is any indication. Panasonic finally rejoined the premium TV arms race with the unveiling of its first ever 4K OLED television during IFA last year. Combined with Panasonic's expertise in color accuracy and picture quality, the so-called CZ950 could be one of the best TVs ever made.
That's not the only trick up Panasonic's sleeve this year. During CES, the company also announced the successor to its beautifully crafted (but impossible to find) AX900U, the TC-65DX900.
OLED TVs
CZ950 Series (TC-65CZ950)
The Panasonic TC-65CZ950 is the company's first-ever OLED TV. This new, emissive screen technology and technical successor to plasma makes for some of the best-looking TVs around—and that's reflected in the prices. Panasonic's OLED doesn't pull any punches on the outside either, delivering a meticulously crafted front-to-back design to complement the high-end screen technology.
KEY SPECS: • Price pending • 4K/UHD resolution • OLED screen (LG RGBW OLED technology) • THX Certified • HDR compatible • Color fine-tuned by Hollywood colorist Mike Sowa
LCD TVs
DX900 Series
The 65-inch DX900U stands in as Panasonic's 2016 flagship LCD TV. Like the previous "X900U" sets, the 2016 version sports a long list of impressive features like full-array local dimming (with a new "Honeycomb" backlight structure), High Dynamic Range functionality, THX certification, and of course, 4K/UHD resolution. The TV's exterior design isn't overly flashy, but strikes a traditional pose sure to please purists.
