Right now, there are endless options of fabric face masks on the market. And with all of these choices, it’s hard to know which mask is best or what mask will be best for a sweat-inducing workout.
Here at Reviewed, we’ve tested our fair share of masks, evaluating them for their fit and ensuring they offer proper protection with multiple layers of fabric. We wore each mask for hours to judge just how comfortable and breathable they were. Feeling like you’re able to breathe easily in your mask is important because you’re less likely to take it off. Plus, it’ll be more comfortable for travel, work, school, and other occasions where your mask stays on for hours at a time. Breathable masks also make it easier to walk or exercise and not feel like you're suffocating.
If you’re in the market for a mask that’s easy to breathe in, below we’ve rounded up the top masks for breathability from all the ones we’ve tested.
1. Athleta
When we tested face masks, we found these masks from activewear brand Athleta to be the best. Now, they are my go-to for just about every activity. The masks are comfortable, lightweight, and breathable. They are triple-layered for added protection, have adjustable earloops, and have a bendable nose wire which helps keep your glasses from fogging up and provides a better fit to your face. I’ve worn this mask on very hot and humid days and found it to be one of the more breathable masks.

2. Old Navy
These are easy to breathe in and easy on your wallet.
I was surprised to find that I liked these masks from Old Navy as much as I did because they are also one of the more affordable options for masks out of the ones we tested. They are made of triple-layered cotton fabric so they are soft on your face, and they are easy to breathe in. I’ve worn them on very long walks and was surprised that I can keep them on for a very long time without feeling like I’m suffocating.

3. Onzie
These are made with upcycled material.
Onzie is known for its high-quality yoga wear that also comes in fun creative prints. They upcycled the material from their yoga clothing to make the Mindful face mask, which also comes in playful patterns like their activewear. These face coverings also happen to be a favorite of trending editor and yoga enthusiast, Amanda Tarlton, for their breathability and comfort. These masks have soft straps which means your ears will be more comfortable and have a pocket for a filter.

4. Plover
This breathable mask is made with organic cotton.
Plover started as an organic cotton bedding company, so it’s no surprise that their face masks are also made of their 100% organic cotton bedding material. This mask feels soft and is breathable. It has two layers for extra protection, however, when I tested the mask it was slightly loose which means it may not offer as much protection on someone with a smaller face. The ear loops are comfortable to wear and the bendable nose piece helps keep glasses from fogging up.

5. Champion
Wick away moisture with this mask.
Our Trending Editor, Amanda Tarlton, put a handful of masks to the test for working out and ended up loving the Champion Lay Flat Wicking Face Mask because it was easy to breathe in while she was exercising at the gym. It also has a great fit and helps to wick moisture away from your face making it great for hot and humid days even if you’re not working out. One drawback is that they are made with a single layer of fabric so they won’t be as protective as other masks with more layers.
