When it comes to style, the hunt for the right pair of jeans is one of our biggest collective challenges. Near-endless options also mean near-endless opportunities to pick the wrong ones. Too big, too long, too tight, too rigid—there’s a host of issues you might come across, and nowadays some brands charge high prices for jeans whose quality doesn’t measure up.

Thankfully, there’s at least one company looking to cut through the noise and, in their words, “provide premium denim at non-premium prices." Silver Jeans Co. is simplifying the search for a great pair of jeans by offering stylish denim at affordable price points. The brand invited me to test-run their Relaxed Painter Jeans. Read on below to find out what I thought about them.

Silver Jeans Co. has been making stylish and quality jeans since 1991.

Although Silver Jeans Co. was established in 1991, it carries with it a heritage that spans over a century. In 1921, the Silver family of Manitoba, Canada, founded Western Glove Works, a dry goods company that would soon enter the wholesale manufacturing business. The company produced gloves, jackets, and dungarees, but it was their denim that paved WGW’s path to success. Over the years, WGW has produced private-label denim for companies such as Gap, Calvin Klein, Wrangler, Victoria Beckham, and many more.

Today, Western Glove Works stands as the oldest privately held denim producer in North America, and Silver Jeans Co. is their flagship in-house brand. Silver Jeans boasts their commitment to quality by focusing on what they call the Four F’s of denim: fit, fabric, fashion, and finish. They know their stuff when it comes to denim and seek to connect with a new generation of tastemakers through their passion for quality-crafted products. Silver Jeans Co. currently offers styles in men’s, women’s, and women’s plus-sizes.

What I liked about Silver Jeans Co. denim

Who doesn't love a good pair of denim jeans that are both flattering and comfortable?

They’re comfy

Comfort is key when it comes to denim, and my pair of Silvers certainly meets that requirement. Straight out of the packaging, these jeans came with that wonderfully worn-in feeling. The fabric has a nice weight to it, but it is also incredibly soft and feels quite pleasant against the skin. The style I chose is already relaxed by design, with its roomy hip and thigh, but the moderate stretch in the denim provides even more comfort. Frankly, I feel like I’m wearing sweatpants when I put these on.

They’re stylish

As a millennial who came of age during the late 2000s, I feel like I’ve worn more than my fair share of skinny jeans. This is why I opted for the cozy Relaxed Painter Jeans, and I’m so happy that I did. There’s something nostalgic about the novelty loophole and extra side pockets featured in this design, reminding me of skater styles from the late 90’s. Painter and carpenter styles have also been on the uptick trend-wise. I’m a big fan of the downtown edge these jeans add to a look.

They’re well-priced

Denim is a product category where prices truly run the gamut. You can easily find not-so-great jeans for a couple of bucks and exceptional jeans for hundreds of dollars. Silver Jeans Co. has found a happy medium, producing a product that rivals $300 jeans but averages between $74 and $94. Their retail price is more than fair given the outstanding quality and build of their denim.

What I didn’t like about Silver Jeans Co. denim

You may benefit by having these jeans altered if you're more on the petite side.

They run long

The only note I have with my Silvers is that they run a little long. The inseam on my pair of Painter Jeans does measure 32” as described on the website, but due to their roomy design, they sit low on the hip and pool around the foot. I personally like the baggy style, and I often cuff my jeans at the bottom, so it doesn’t bother me much. However, if you prefer a neater look or less fabric, keep this in mind.

Is Silver Jeans Co. denim worth it?

With Silver Jeans Co., you don't have to compromise quality for price‚ which is a win in our books.

For sure!

Silver Jeans Co. promises to provide high quality at a reasonable price, and that was certainly my experience. Despite my note about the length, my pair of Relaxed Painter Jeans have absolutely become my go-to pair of denim over the past six weeks. They are comfortable, attractive, and far exceeded my initial expectations. If you’re looking for simple, unfussy denim that won’t break the bank, I could not recommend Silver Jeans Co. more.
