Whether you’re stepping out of the shower or cozying up on the couch, there’s something so luxurious and comforting about wrapping yourself up in a plush, fluffy robe. But do you pick the right robe for you out of the hundreds of styles, brands, and types of bathrobes out there? We put some of the best bathrobes for women to the test, from the cult-favorite Parachute robe to the super-soft Ugg fleece robe.
Our top pick for the best women’s robe is the comfortable, well-fitting Eberjey Gisele Tuxedo Robe
(available at Amazon)
. It's as stylish as it is soft and breathable for all seasons. However, if you're looking for something snugglier and made of fleece for colder weather, the Richie House Women’s Bathrobe, is our pick for Best Value.
Best Overall
Eberjey Gisele Robe
Material: 95% Modal jersey, 5% spandex
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 3 solid colors with contrasting piping
The Eberjey Gisele Tuxedo Robe is from the same company that makes our favorite pajamas. The fabric is buttery soft. Of all of the robes we tested, this one fit our petite tester best, without even being tied tightly. You can comfortably wear it for hours and the belt will never come untied.
It’s great for all seasons; the fabric is thick enough for the colder months and breathably light for summer. Its classic cut and color choices make it stylish, to boot. The stitching construction is excellent, and the fabric held up well with no pilling after washing. We think it’ll hold up for years to come.
While this robe hits high marks in all of our major categories, it did shrink a bit in the dryer. That isn’t a dealbreaker at all, but we do recommend air drying it. If you’re looking for a great robe to wear year-round, the Eberjey Gisele Tuxedo Robe is it.
The Richie House Fleece Robe is soft and snuggly, at a great price!

Richie House Women's Long Plush Fleece Robe with Hood
Material: 100% polyester
Sizes: S-XL
Colors: 17 solid colors and 2 plaids
The Richie House Women’s Long Plush Fleece Robe is extremely fun to wear. Its generous fleece hood adds an air of mysterious drama to your coziness. The plush fleece fabric is snuggly, soft, and very warm. The short- and long-term comfort were excellent when tested for two days in a row during a harsh winter.
It also has tons of color options and a cute waffle texture on the front pockets, hood lining, and sleeves. This robe kept our tester warm, but the breathable fleece fabric didn’t overheat her. The stitching and robe construction is of decent quality and it seems like it would last you awhile.
The robe also features pockets deep enough to hold your phone and other essentials. The belt was easy to tie and never came undone.
That said, this robe is intended to run large and long, so if you want a snug fight, consider sizing down. It shrank a bit when we washed it according to the instructions, but not enough to affect the overall fit. If you’re searching for a giftable, snuggly, fun robe at a great price, the Richie House robe may be the one for you.
The UGG Miranda Robe is a great choice if you're looking to treat yourself.
Best Upgrade
Ugg Women's Miranda Fleece Robe
Material: 100% polyester
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 6 colors, 3 patterns
Ugg might be best-known for its cult-favorite sherpa-lined boots, but the popular brand also makes apparel—including robes. Our tester had high hopes for this robe, based both on her experience with Ugg footwear and the robes' popularity. It didn’t disappoint.
Its shorter length hits around mid-thigh, making it comfortable year-round compared to longer robes. It lets your legs breathe while keeping your upper half nice and toasty. Made of incredibly soft fleece, it comes in plenty of colors and fun prints.
Our tester liked the Ugg robe’s comfort and warmth. It’s great for lounging around the house, but stylish enough to wear around guests. While it was definitely the most expensive robe in our original tests, it is definitely worth the splurge.
Parachute’s Classic Turkish Cotton Bathrobe is one of the most popular robes around. The bedding company’s foray into loungewear is featured on almost every list of top robes, when our own Parachute bathrobe review found that it lived up to the hype.
This unisex robe is designed to fit all different body types. When our tester tried it, she liked that it fit well and stayed securely closed. She didn’t have to adjust the sleeves or tie while wearing it.
The Turkish cotton material comes with some pros and some cons. Compared to fleece, Turkish cotton is more absorbent and heavyweight. That makes the robe warm and great for post-shower wear. However, it isn’t as soft as fleece robes, and the heavy material can be a little cumbersome for long-term wear.
Overall, this robe feels more like a bath towel than a cozy robe. If you’re looking for a terry cloth robe that you can comfortably wear when your skin is still wet from the shower, it’s a solid investment.
Pros
Absorbent enough for post-shower wear
Fits true to size
Unisex
Cons
Not as soft as other robes
Heavier weight makes it less ideal for long-term wear

Nordstrom
The Nordstrom Bliss Plush Robe was the softest and most comfortable robe we tested.
Best Plush
Nordstrom Bliss Plush Robe
Material: 100% polyester
Sizes: XXS-XXL
Colors: 2 colors
Our former Best Overall, the Nordstrom Bliss Plush Robe had a very cozy fabric and a comfortable fit. This super plush robe is made of the same sumptuous fleece as Nordstrom’s wildly popular Bliss Plush Throw Blanket, so it feels like a blanket that you can wear. We’ve worn it for hours without getting too hot or cold.
It held up well to washing, with no shrinking or pilling when we put it through the laundry. We suspect you could wear it for many seasons before needing to replace it. The tie never came undone while I was wearing it, and it even has pockets that can comfortably accommodate a phone or snacks.
However, the robe was a bit long for our 5-foot-3 tester. It didn’t drag on the ground, but it did hit her legs at an awkward length. The fit of the robe was average—not as oversized as some, but not snug, either. Our tester had to tie the belt quite tightly to keep it comfortably snug.
This robe is plush, long, and warm. It’s really only practical for winter use, and may only be available seasonally.
Pros
Fits snugly and comfortably
Softest fleece
Has pockets
Less expensive than other options
Cons
Not super heavy
Other Robes for Women We Tested
Marriott Terry Velour Robe
Material: 100% cotton
Sizes: One size fits most
Colors: 1 color (white)
If you're the type of person who goes straight for the bathrobe after stepping into a hotel room, then this robe from Marriott is for you. This 'one size fits most' robe is quite roomy, but despite being large on my 5' 6", 135-pound frame, it was still super cozy and comfortable. Made of 100% cotton, this terry velour robe is easy to wash and isn't so bulky that it needs additional time in the dryer to come out fluffy and fully dried.
The robe was so comfortable, in fact, that my boyfriend decided he had to test it too, so I had to steal it away in order to test it. Warm but not stifling, this robe is breathable enough that it's easy to forget you're wearing it, and the deep pockets have plenty of room in case you do venture out to get the mail in it. Oops!
With two belt loop options, this 48-inch long robe really works to cater to people of different heights, and much to my pleasure (and my neighbors'), it never came untied by accident. The robe cuffs hit me at about the middle of my hands, and I especially liked the roomy arms and extra collar that piled around my neck when I sat down to relax.
If you're looking for a piece of at-home luxury, this bathrobe would be a good choice.
Pros
Comfortable
Size inclusive
Cons
Only comes in white
L.L. Bean Women's Wicked Plush Robe
Material: 100% polyester
Sizes: XS-XL in regular or petite, plus 2X and 3X
Colors: 8 colors
The L.L. Bean Plush Robe is one of the softest our first tester tried, ranking right up there with the Bliss Plush Robe. She wanted to snuggle up in this luxurious, sherpa-trimmed fleece robe 24/7 (or at least while watching Netflix on a snowy night in front of the fire). It even has a hood for keeping extra warm in cold winters.
However, there were some distracting downsides. The “regular” length is 47 inches long, the second-longest robe we tested. Our 5’5” tester found it to be too long, almost dragging on the ground. They do have petite sizing, and while “petite” typically indicates people 5’2” and under, people over that height may also want a petite on this particular robe.
The long length also made it a little too warm to wear for longer than 30 minutes. It felt like she was wearing a blanket, and not in a good way. The fabric wasn’t breathable, and trapped too much heat. People who run hot should steer clear.
Pros
Super soft and plush fleece material
Spacious hood
Comes in petite and plus sizes
Cons
Very long
Not breathable
Brooklinen Super-Plush Robe
Material: 100% Turkish cotton
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 5 colors and 1 pattern
We have long been fans of Brooklinen’s apparel their loungewear is also a favorite) and the Brooklyn-based brand also makes the best sheets we’ve ever tested. Unfortunately, our tester didn’t love the Brooklinen plush robe. She found the sleeves to be extremely wide and the robe itself to be very oversized.
If you do want to buy this robe, we recommend you size down. However, be aware that while a smaller size might fix the wide sleeves and oversized fit, you could end up with sleeves that are too short. Not only that, but there are only three size options (XS/S, M/L, and XL/XXL), so in some cases, sizing down isn’t an option.
Our tester was also skeptical of how well this robe will hold up over time. After washing it, she noticed a few loose threads. She did like the Turkish cotton’s softness, and the robe’s added features like a stylish piped collar and roomy pockets.
Pros
Quality Turkish cotton
Very deep pockets
Absorbent enough to wear post-shower
Unisex
Cons
Sleeves are very wide
Not true to size
Only comes in three sizes
Some loose threads after washing
Crane & Canopy Plush Cotton Bathrobe
Material: 100% long-staple Turkish cotton
Sizes: S-L
Colors: 3 colors (gray, light gray, white)
As a fan of Crane & Canopy's pajamas, our tester was excited for the bedding brand’s robe option. It’s very comfortable overall, with a snug (yet not too tight) fit around the waist. However, the sleeves were oddly wide, allowing drafts in and falling down whenever she lifted her arms.
However, the Turkish cotton material is absorbent, making the Crane & Canopy robe a good “just out of the shower” robe. However, the Turkish cotton here isn’t as soft as the Parachute robe’s. Additionally, the color selection is limited, although it does have pretty detailing on the shawl collar and cuffs that add an extra touch of elegance.
Pros
Snug fit
Absorbent
Stylish collar and cuff details
Cons
Very wide sleeves
Belt didn’t stay tied well
Only available in white and grey
NY Threads Womens Fleece Bathrobe
Material: 100% polyester
Sizes: S-XL
Colors: 11 solid colors, 6 patterns
The NY Threads Women’s Fleece Bathrobe is a solid choice for a basic fleece bathrobe at an affordable price. It’s comfortable to wear all day and the belt stays tied tightly. It held up well in the wash, although the fit changed a tiny bit.
However, as large and long as this robe runs, a small change in fit doesn’t make a huge difference. The NY Threads robe also comes with sizable pockets and is easy to care for—just wash on warm and tumble dry low.
Despite these pluses, we have a few complaints. The material, stitching, and construction felt cheaper than others we tested. That’s expected, since this robe is a fraction of others’ prices, but it still didn’t feel fantastic. It’s also oversized, and was way too big on our 5’5” tester’s frame. She reported that it was practically dragging on the ground and the sleeves were too long.
Still, if you want a basic bathrobe and don’t have a small frame, the NY Threads Fleece Bathrobe may be the one for you.
Alexander Del Rossa Women's Plush Fleece Robe with Hood
Material: polyester
Sizes: XS-5X/6X
Colors: 27 colors and patterns
It might be the best-selling robe on Amazon, and they offer a wide range of sizes and colors. Unfortunately, our tester was less than impressed with the quality of the Alexander Del Rossa Women’s Robe’s. The fleece felt thin, and the seams didn’t seem like they’d hold up well over time.
Not only that, but the robe was incredibly long for her 5-foot-5 height. At 52 inches long, it was the longest robe in our initial tests. The cumbersome length was annoying. Our tester had difficulty moving around without tripping, and frequently had to push up the sleeves.
Yet despite the length, the super-thin fleece didn’t keep her very warm. This turned her off from wearing the robe. Overall, it was too long for warmer weather, yet not thick enough to keep her warm in colder weather.
Despite our love of Brooklinen overall, the Brooklinen Waffle Robe did not hold up well against the competition. To their credit, the Turkish cotton fabric is thick, and the stitching and construction are decent. Unfortunately, the upsides end there.
First off, the fabric of this robe is rough, as waffle weaves tend to be. It felt even worse after washing the robe according to the care instructions. Additionally, the robe is extremely oversized, to the point where it felt like it was falling off of our tester.
The belt on this robe came untied often, requiring frequent adjusting. It’s made to shrink a full size post-wash, which can feel somewhat dramatic even if you’re expecting it. All in all, we recommend Parachute over Brooklinen this time.
Pros
Quality construction
Cons
Rough fabric
Too large
Shrinks when washed
Natori Shangri La Robe
Material:65% modal, 45% polyester
Sizes: XS-2X
Colors: 7 colors
The Natori Shangri-La robe was our least favorite. The material is thin and cheap, and seems likely to pill quickly after several wears and washes. The kimono-style sleeves hit awkwardly on our tester’s arms, and the waist tie looped in an awkward place. It shrank quite a bit in the wash, though it fit our 5’3” tester a bit long to begin with.
Overall, this robe felt overpriced for the quality of the material and stitching. If you’re looking for a warmer weather knit robe, the Eberjey Gisele Tuxedo Robe is a better choice.

Through rigorous testing, we found the best robes money can buy.
The Tests
To find the best robes around, we began by shopping the most popular options online, looking for high customer ratings and machine-washable options. Then, our lab techs developed a rubric for judging the robes. We examined all of the factors that make a great robe: fit, short- and long-term comfort, material, quality of construction, and any special features.
To get a (literal) feel for the robes' quality, fabric, and comfort, we wore each one for an entire day while we went about our usual activities (i.e. working, walking around the house, lounging post-shower, and making trips from the kitchen to the couch). We paid attention to things like how the robe felt against the skin, whether or not it was too warm when worn over a long period of time, and how often we had to adjust the belt or the sleeves.
We then washed all of the robes according to their care instructions. Before washing, we measured the length of the robe, the width and length of the sleeves, and the length of the tie. We compared these measurements to the post-wash measurements to see if the robes shrunk at all during washing.
What You Should Know About Bathrobes
The home office is here to stay, which means it’s worth adding a good bathrobe to your daily rotation of loungewear and sleepwear. The fit, the material, and the quality of the construction are all factors to consider. You want a robe that looks good, feels great, and will last for years to come.
How Should a Robe Fit?
Trying to size a robe can be difficult. Many come in generic sizes (small, medium, large, etc.) or even combination sizes like “small/medium.” It can also be tricky to translate the sizing on unisex robes to the sizes that you’re used to dealing with.
Our former materials expert, Jamie Ueda, offered a few tips on how to size your robe for the best fit: There should be enough room for movement (though not so much that the robe falls off your shoulders). There should also be enough fabric to comfortably wrap around the center of your body, but not so much that it wraps all the way around to your side or back.
Too much material will force you to readjust the robe often, and can make you feel like you're drowning in the fabric. As for sleeve length, Jamie suggests looking for sleeves that hit just below the wrist. This helps keep the entire length of your arm warm without getting in the way of everyday activities.
What's the Best Material for Bathrobes?
Choosing the best material for your robe comes down to what you're using the robe for and your personal preference. Our testing focused on the two most popular fabrics: fleece and cotton (including terry cloth).
Jamie says that if you want a robe to wear straight out of the bath, cotton will be your best bet as it's more absorbent and breathable. However, if you're looking for a robe to lounge around in, she recommends fleece as it's warmer than cotton.
One common type of cotton used in robes (especially higher-end robes) is Turkish cotton. What makes it different? Turkish cotton is a natural fiber that's higher-quality than regular cotton, Jamie explains, adding that it lints less and is both softer and stronger. Turkish cotton also gets fluffier and more absorbent with every wash.
