Prime Video just released the first trailer for its newest blockbuster series set to debut on February 2, 2024. Starring Donald Glover ("Atlanta," "Solo: A Star Wars Story") and Maya Erskine ("PEN15"), the slick new show promises intense action and touches of deception as its titular couple tries to balance their dangerous work and mysterious married life. What is 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' about?
Though you might've seen "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" back in 2005 with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the title roles, things are a bit different this time around. We still have John (Glover) and Jane (Erskine) posing as a married couple to hide their work lives as globe-trotters with deadly skills. Whereas the movie had John and Jane fall in love first and then discover their killer workloads, the new duo are sharp-dressed spies working for a mysterious agency that forces them into a marriage as part of their cover. So what comes first: their mission or their marriage?
The series was co-created by Glover and Francesca Sloane, who has also written episodes of Glover's "Atlanta" along with FX's "Fargo" series. Though originally set to star Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge ("Fleabag"), the latter Emmy winner exited the project in 2021 over creative differences. Erskine took over Waller-Bridge's role last year after the completion of her hit Hulu series "PEN15." The series will also feature Paul Dano ("The Batman"), Parker Posey ("Josey and the Pussycats"), John Turturro ("The Big Lebowski") and Ron Perlman ("Hellboy").
