Samsung is making flip phones cool again with a foldable phone

If you're a child of the 90's, you probably remember the flip phone phenomenon. My very first phone was a flip phone and, much to the annoyance of my peers, I used to open and close that thing a million times in class. If you've no idea what I'm talking about, flip phones were mobile devices that folded via a hinge. You had to flip open the phone to see the screen and number pad. Have you ever seen the way an underwater clam opens and closes its mouth? Yeah, it's like that.

Flip phones may have peaked in 2000, but that doesn't mean people stopped loving them. Samsung's making flip phones cool again thanks to this futuristic looking phone. In other words, the tech giant is taking the flip phone design to the next level. This innovative device bends and folds like a seasoned contortionist, which is super cool. Despite issues with the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung isn't going to shy away from a challenge.

Samsung's Galaxy X (a.k.a Project Valley) patent is a foldable smartphone you can store in your pocket. The device is longer than most smartphones when it's unfurled, which, depending on personal preference, may or may not be a problem. I don't mind phones with a wider or longer screen, as my eyesight is really poor. Though a bendable phone sounds interesting, I worry the unusual design will detract from the picture quality. I'd be curious to know more about the phone's durability too. Is it flimsy or more robust?

There's no concrete release date yet, but Samsung expects the phone to land sometime in 2017.
