Zoma is a newer mattress-in-a-box company and is the sister company of Amerisleep. Aside from building up an impressive reputation since it launched its first mattress in 2019, the company has carved out a niche for itself by specializing in mattresses “designed for athletes and individuals with demanding lifestyles.”
The Zoma Boost is a hybrid mattress with an outer cooling quilted cover wrapped around five layers. The cover is quilted and infused with fibers that Zoma claims help to keep the sleeper cool. The subsequent layers include a layer of graphite-infused memory foam, a quilted gel foam layer, a reactive layer of foam, a layer of pocket springs, and a base layer of dense foam.
The Zoma Boost is available in Twin, Twin XL, Queen, King, California King, and Split King sizes. The mattress occupies the higher end of Zoma’s offerings, and the queen option costs $1,749.
What we like about the Zoma Boost Hybrid mattress
The Zoma Boost does a great job of keeping cool and preventing motion transfer.
Motion transfer was minimal
If you’re a light sleeper easily woken by a partner rolling over, then the Zoma Boost might be the mattress of your dreams. The Boost offers an impressive level of motion isolation, thanks no doubt to the multiple layers of thick foam layered over the pocket springs.
To test motion isolation, we drop a heavy 150-pound punching bag onto one side of the mattress, and using an accelerometer, we record how the motion is registered on the opposite side. The lower the registered movement, the better the bed is at isolating motion. When we performed this test on the Boost, we recorded a peak force that was less than half of most other mattresses we tested.
Its edge support won't let you down
The Zoma Boost has excellent edge support.
The Zoma Boost exhibited excellent edge support in our objective and subjective tests. To test edge support, we take the same 150-pound bag we use for our motion isolation tests and move it along the mattress to see how and when the edges compress. We also record how many inches the bag hangs over the edge of the bed before it rolls off. In addition, our tester sits on the edge of the mattress and notes how supportive the edge feels.
In both tests, the Boost’s edges managed to keep their shape, and the bag managed to hang an impressive 6.5 inches over the edge before it tumbled off the bed. That’s a result that was only bested by two other mattresses, one of which was the Zoma Hybrid
It provides a fair degree of cooling and comfort
Despite its substantial thickness, which might suggest a potential for heat retention, the Zoma Boost pleasantly surprised us with its ability to maintain a cool and comfortable sleeping environment in our heat retention tests. It may not be able to match the effective heat diffusion of mattresses marketed explicitly for their cooling properties like the Serta Arctic, but it should still keep you cool at night.
What we don’t like about the Zoma Boost Hybrid mattress
The Zoma Boost is extremely thick and some smaller fitted sheets won't fit around the corners.
It might be too soft for some
Zoma doesn’t specify the firmness of the Boost. Still, based on our own subjective experience, it fits in the medium category and, as a result, might be too soft for heavier individuals, especially if they sleep on their backs or their sides.
Thickness could be an issue for fitted sheets
At a whopping 15 inches, the Zoma Boost is the thickest mattress we have tested to date. If you intend to purchase this mattress, be aware that you might need to invest in some deep-pocket fitted sheets, as regular sheets may not be large enough to hook under the corners.
What is Zoma’s return policy and warranty?
Zoma mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial. Based on what we have seen from competing brands, 100 days is on the short side but pretty standard across the industry. You must spend at least 30 nights on the mattress before initiating the return process, which starts from the delivery date. If you want to return the mattress before the initial 30 days have passed, you will need to pay $99. If you don’t love the bed, reach out to the company before the 100-night window closes and it will help facilitate a full refund.
As is the industry standard, the Zoma Boost mattress also comes with a 10-year warranty. During that time, Zoma will replace or repair the mattress due to faulty construction or structural defects. It’s worth noting that Zoma states that in some cases, the customer will be liable for labor and shipping costs and that the company will not pay for the haul-away of the defective mattress.
What are other people saying about the Zoma Boost Hybrid mattress?
The first Zoma mattress was launched in 2019, and since then, the brand has built a solid reputation and amassed a satisfied customer base. The Boost is only available on the Zoma website, where it has an average 5-star rating; however, that is only based on six reviews at the time of writing. We could not find the mattress for sale elsewhere, so getting an accurate sense of overall customer satisfaction is challenging.
Should you buy the Zoma Boost Hybrid mattress
The Zoma Boost is one of the best mattresses we have tested.
Yes, It’s an excellent, albeit pricey, upgrade
The Zoma Boost may not be the best mattress we have tested, but it is the best Zoma mattress we have tested. Like the Zoma Hybrid, the Boost offers some of the best edge support and motion isolation we have seen to date. In addition, the luxurious cushioning and cooling layers give it the edge over most mattresses on the market.
The Zoma Boost is an excellent upgrade
