As the new school year quickly approaches, people everywhere are stocking up on classroom and dorm essentials. Along with laptops, tablets, notebooks, planners, textbooks, pens, and pencils, students are also eying comfortable and stylish bedding to usher in the new year—and if TikTok has anything to say about it, Urban Outfitters is a great place to shop for trendy bedding staples.

From toile bedding and puffy comforters to floral duvets and retro-inspired blankets and throw pillows, Urban Outfitters bedding seems to have it all. I was curious to find out if the brand's bedding offering is actually worth the slightly higher price tags. To do so, I tested the Urban Outfitters Granny Flower Crochet Throw Blanket ($179) and Urban Outfitters Luxe Modal Sheet Set ($119).

Keep reading to find out what I loved and what I could have done without.

How I tested Urban Outfitters bedding

I incorporated the bedding into my bedroom and living room.

To put my Urban Outfitters bedding to the test, I incorporated it into my bedroom and living room for one month. I outfitted my bed with the Urban Outfitters Luxe Modal Sheet Set and transitioned the Urban Outfitters Granny Flower Crochet Throw Blanket between my sofa and reading chair.

Testing the sheet set was a bit more involved, as I could actually wash it—I did so before putting the fitted sheet, top sheet, and pillowcases on my bed, and again at the 2-week mark. The throw blanket on the other hand, is meant to only be spot cleaned, so I simply removed it from the plastic packaging it came in and put it on my chair.

Over the next four weeks, I slept, napped, tossed, turned, and relaxed amidst my Urban Outfitters bedding finds. In doing so, I realized what I loved, and what I found somewhat lackluster about the products.

What I love about UO bedding

Urban Outfitters is always on-trend.

It's always on-trend

There's no denying Urban Outfitters is up to date with the latest trends. Where the Luxe Modal Sheet Set came in the perfect, most cheerful Barbie pink hue (as well as light gray and white options), the Granny Flower Crochet Throw Blanket features one of TikTok's biggest crafting obsessions: Granny squares! Because of this, I was able to add a bright pop of color to my bed, as well as in my living room. Considering most sheets and throws are more neutral, this is a big win for me.

The bedding is super comfy

Another thing I love about the throw blanket is how well-made it feels. While the cotton-poly blend blanket isn't the softest I've ever touched, it feels thick and warm, which checks a box in my list. Meanwhile, the sheets were OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, meaning they're made without harsh chemicals, making them a more sustainable bedding solution—a highlight, no doubt.

The overall quality isn’t the best.

The quality could stand to improve

As much as I love the color of the hot pink sheet set, the overall quality isn't the best. Sure, they're a soft jersey material that's fairly breathable and they hold up well in the wash, but they're so stretchy that the pillowcases provide no shape for my soft, fluffy pillows, which makes them look a bit messy on my bed. I found that stretching them to one side and folding back the excess was the only way to perk them up.

The throw blanket wasn't washable

While the throw blanket could be softer (which I imagine it will become overtime), my main complaint is that it's not washable. The brand recommends only spot cleaning it, which I imagine is because of the ultra-bright colors used on it, which could potentially bleed into different areas of the blanket if tossed in the wash. Washing instructions aside, I also wish this blanket was a bit bigger, as it's only 50"x60". Thankfully, it has some give, so I can stretch it around my feet while still pulling up over my body for full coverage.

Items sell out quickly

When you shop a trending brand like Urban Outfitters, you run the risk of having items sell out incredibly quickly. Unsurprisingly, the Barbie-inspired hot pink sheets I tried are no longer available on the Urban Outfitters website. I only ordered them in late June, so within just two months, they're gone from the site.

Is Urban Outfitters bedding good quality?

In terms of quality, I'd give both items I tested a 7 out of 10. Where the sheet set was soft, breathable, and easy to wash, it could be a little less stretchy, at least in the pillow cases. Meanwhile, the throw blanket is a statement-making piece that's cozy and well-made, but could be a bit larger and a tad softer, not to mention easier to care for (especially when you're paying $179 for it).

Is Urban Outfitters bedding worth it?

If you’re looking for a specific color of sheets, this is the bedding for you.

Urban Outfitters bedding is worth it if you're looking for a specific color of sheets (such as the hot pink Luxe Modal ones I tried) or statement bedding. I say this because there are definitely other modal jersey sheet sets out there of similar quality but in more neutral shades (such as the Casaluna Jersey Solid Sheet Set, $59) that are sold for a fraction of the price.

Additionally, some people on social media advise against purchasing anything with granny squares from a fast fashion brand (which UO is) because crocheting is an intricate art that takes a lot of time, which these brands likely aren't paying their workers fairly for.

With that in mind, only you can decide if Urban Outfitters bedding is right for you. My advice? Opt for one of the eye-catching duvets or a few of the pillows, as those items are a bit more unique, making them more worth the markup.
