About the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid

The Sealy Posturepedic offers a satisfying balance between plush and firm, making it an ideal hybrid mattress.

Sealy is a longstanding bedding company. It’s been making mattresses for more than 140 years and has been in the bed-in-a-box market since 2016. The Posturepedic line focuses on proper spinal alignment, which Sealy claims to promote with supportive coils and motion absorption. It’s a moderately firm hybrid mattress with a minor bounce—you won’t be springing off the bed, but you won’t get sucked into the foam, either.

The Posturepedic arrived in a plastic bag which we found easy to cut off and strip away. The mattress itself had a mild scent upon unboxing, but this dissipated quickly and wasn’t strong enough to bother our testers. That’s more than we can say about some mail order mattresses, which often arrive with a strong initial odor.

The Sealy Posturepedic is available in all standard sizes, with the twin mattress starting at $1,149.

What we like about the Sealy Posturepedic

Phenomenal pressure point relief means its massively supportive for sleepers in any position

The Posturepedic's exceptional pressure point relief remained consistent throughout a variety of sleep positions.

The Sealy Posturepedic makes big claims about its pressure point relief—and we were impressed with how well these claims were supported during our tests. In fact, the Posturepedic blew past the competition and offered the best pressure point relief we’ve ever tested in any mattress.

What that means in practice is that when you’re lying down on the mattress, it supports and relieves pressure on multiple parts of your body. You should especially feel this in sensitive spots that can get uncomfortable lying down, like your hips, shoulders, and lower back.

We even found that this impressive performance held up when we changed sleeping positions. While some mattresses do a great job accommodating either side sleepers or stomach sleepers, the Posturepedic does it all.

Stable edges provide support in every corner of the mattress

Mattresses with edge support can provide more resistance and sturdiness around the perimeter to promote safer sleep.

Lots of great mattresses lose points when we test edge support. They get squishier as you move away from the center of the mattress, meaning lying or sitting on the side of your bed feels less stable.

Not so with the Posturepedic. This mattress has strong and consistent support throughout, with an outer edge that is stable without being uncomfortably firm. This may be because of Sealy’s coil design, which is intended to provide consistent firmness no matter where you are on the bed.

It’s not the most exceptional edge support we’ve ever tested (ranking it against all the other mattresses in the Reviewed archives, it falls near the middle), but it felt stable, secure, and left our testers without complaints.

Excellent cooling capabilities make it a fantastic choice for hot sleepers

The Posturepedic is constructed with individually encased coils that are meant to improve airflow and keep you cool while you sleep. In our tests, we found that the mattress did an excellent job controlling temperatures.

We monitored the mattress’s heat over time and found that the Posturepedic steadily trended back to room temperature. This held true even under layers of blankets, indicating that the mattress’s airflow technology really does work effectively.

What we don’t like about the Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid

Slightly less time to try it out compared to its competition

We found the 90-night trial period to be slightly below average.

At this point, the online mattress market is a well-established space with certain standards and expectations. One of those standards is that mail delivery mattresses will come with a 100-night trial period, which is typically considered plenty of time to determine if the bed works for you.

The Posturepedic comes with a 90-night trial—not terrible, but a bit below average. That may be frustrating for buyers who want the longest possible time to assess their new purchase.

Not-quite-amazing shock absorption means you may feel your partner tossing and turning

Light sleepers may find that the lack of shock absorption may increase the amount of interruptions during sleep.

Sealy makes big claims about the Posturepedic’s shock absorption—in other words, its ability to absorb motion and prevent you from feeling your sleeping partner’s every toss and turn. While we did find the mattress offered moderate shock absorption, it didn’t quite live up to the claims.

Now, the Posturepedic’s motion control isn’t terrible—some of our tests actually put it a hair above average. That being said, it’s far from a top performer. If you share a bed with someone who’s always waking you up by moving around in their sleep, we don’t think this mattress will be the miracle cure.

Warranty and return policy

The Sealy Posturepedic offers a 90-night trial period, which is slightly below average, especially for mattresses of this price range. As with most mattresses, the Sealy Posturepedic requires buyers to wait 30 days before taking advantage of returns.

If you return or exchange your mattress during the trial period, you’ll be charged a $175 fee for shipping costs. The overall return process is fairly simple and straightforward, however, and you can initiate a return through an online form.

Sealy offers a fairly standard 10-year warranty, covering manufacturing flaws but not regular wear and tear.

What other people are saying about the Sealy Posturepedic

The Sealy Posturepedic has earned 2,424 reviews on the Sealy site, with an average of 4.6 stars out of 5. Looking at all reviews, 72% of customers gave five stars, and another 23% gave 4 stars.

The vast majority of reviewers are happy with the Posturepedic. Satisfied reviewers say that it’s comfortable, with the proper amount of firmness for their bodies. Dissatisfied customers don’t like the firmness, and some are unhappy with the $175 return fee.

Should you buy the Sealy Posturepedic?

Yes, if you care about support and cooling above all else

The Sealy Posturepedic makes regulating your temperature during sleep a breeze.

When it comes to scoring the best mattresses, the Sealy Posturepedic lands around the middle of the mattresses we’ve tested. Its shock absorption and trial period are average at best—but its strongest features really shine.

If you value exceptional pressure point relief and cooling above all else, this will be the perfect mattress for you. We’ve never seen a better mattress for pressure relief. That’s especially impressive considering the hybrid design and how many sleeping positions it accommodates. No matter what your sleep style, the Sealy Posturepedic can offer incredible medium-firm comfort.
