A tech startup and an appliance giant are partnering to help you become a better chef.

Drop, a Dublin-based company known for its smart scale and recipe app, announced this week that it's teaming up with the German home appliance manufacturer Bosch to add an interactive recipe platform to Bosch's flagship wall ovens.

In other words, the appliance and smartphone app will talk to one another. According to Drop CEO Ben Harris, the app is designed to "build a seamless cookbook experience" by bridging the gap between recipe and cooking.

The recipe app will give instructions for preparing the dish, and your phone will notify you once the preheat is complete—no more babysitting the oven.

When the food is done cooking, the oven will turn itself off and alert you. You can also remotely control features such as time, temperature, and speed from your smartphone.

This partnership leans heavily on both foodie culture and the growing trend of smart kitchens. According to Harris, Drop's partnership with Bosch will "lower the bar of entry into the kitchen." That's good news for aspiring home chefs whose knees still knock at the words "broil" and "bake."

The Drop app is already available and free to download on the Apple store, but the oven integration will initially be available on Bosch's European lineup of Series 8 ovens. Though a firm release date hasn't been set, Harris expects the app to be available on US-bound Bosch products early next year.
