On the heels of Dacor's introduction of their Discovery iQ 48" Dual-Fuel Range featuring smart technology, GE announced today that owners of GE Profile wall ovens now have the ability to control their appliance via smartphone.

A new update to the Brillion app allows users to preheat, set the timer, check cooking status, receive notifications, and even turn their oven on or off, all remotely.

To enable remote control, a consumer simply needs to download GE's Brillion mobile app to a smartphone.

It's an example of how a smart appliance manufacturer can push out new features and capabilities to consumers who have already bought and installed an oven. This opens the road to future upgrades or "patches" being pushed out in a similar manner.

GE's remote-controlled wall ovens are already on sale for $2,299-$3,799 MSRP.
