At PAX East it's often easy to get lost amongst the towering booths of AAA companies, but one of the largest sections of the show floor is actually dominated by indie developers. This year, the Indie Megabooth contained over 50 smaller companies with their games on display. The past few years have witnessed a boom in indie game development, fueled partially by indie-centric distribution venues like Xbox LIVE Indie Games and Steam Greenlight.
To learn more about why indie game development is so popular, we ventured into the Indie Megabooth and talked Philip Tibitoski (developer of Octodad), Chris Mcquinn (designer of Guacamelee!), and Nigel Lowrie (publisher of Hotline Miami). Our question was simple: what is an indie game?
