It's the end of an era: the glowing Apple logo is dead.

Over the past two years, Apple has continuously overhauled most of its existing product lineup with fresh new designs. From the iPhone, to the iPad, to the MacBook, Apple has shown that it's not afraid to, in the parlance of editors everywhere, "kill its darlings."
While some of these changes are clearly for the better, many could charitably be described as "puzzling." But not all of these changes have received the same amount of attention. One change that hasn't received much press: the death of the glowing Apple logo on the MacBook.
Beginning with the 12-inch MacBook that debuted last year and carrying over to the newest MacBook Pro models, the glowing Apple logo on the back of MacBooks has been replaced. Where the logo used to be a piece of translucent plastic that allowed the screen's backlight to shine through is now a simple piece of reflective metal.
While it brings the design of the MacBooks more in line with the iPhone (which have a similar reflective logo), it's just not as clever or unique of a design. Everyone has reflective metal logos. They're boring. It also means the death of one of the last vestiges of the "fun" Apple design ethos that carried the company from the candy-coated iMacs of the 1990s up until the iPhone a decade ago.
But in true Irish wake fashion, we're not here to just mourn the death of one of our favorite design touches; we're here to celebrate it, and the creative ways people have dressed the logo up to make it their own. The best part? You can still buy these, along with one of the few MacBooks that still have glowing logos to pair them with.
