Generac recalls over 60,000 generators—here's what to know and buy

Generac Power Systems has recalled over 60,000 of its portable generators. This recall follows 29 incidents of the generators pressurizing or expelling fuel when opened. Three of these incidents resulted in severe burn injuries. According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), these incidents are due to a malfunction in which the fuel tank fails to vent far away enough from the rollover valve, leading to the buildup of excess pressure.
The recalled generators were sold in major home improvement stores, hardware stores, and various websites from April 2011 to June 2023. Generac advises consumers to immediately cease use of the recalled generators and contact them immediately for a free repair kit.
Which Generac generators have been recalled?
To find your Generac generator’s unit type, it can be found on either the sides of the tank or on the control panel. The model number is printed on the heat shield’s label between the engine and alternator. The following models have been recalled:
