Dyson, known for its focus on vacuums and powerful suction, is now using its tech in reverse to create an entirely new product—a hair dryer.

Called the Dyson Supersonic, it’s the British company’s first foray into the world of beauty products. Dyson announced the product back in April, but it made its American debut Wednesday night in New York City.

The Supersonic’s New York debut is “coincidentally” occurring during New York Fashion Week. And while it’s not an official NYFW event, I can’t help but think it says something about Dyson’s hopes for the product.

In typical Dyson fashion, the Supersonic looks unlike conventional hair dryers and more like a strange device straight from the future. You can actually see right through the hair dryer, which sends heated air through a ring into your wet hair.

The Supersonic costs $400 and is available now at Sephora. We’ll be back with a hands-on (and hair-on) look at the Supersonic, so stay tuned to Reviewed.com.
