Looking back across a week at CES 2025, AI has been a massive part of the conversation, no surprise since CES is the world’s largest tech show. While nearly every product we’ve seen on the show floor has some element of artificial intelligence to it, whether it’s insect identification (see Wonder’s Petal camera) or flavor profile learning (see Spicerr) or a robot that maximizes laundry care (Tenet AI Laundry Robot), there are a few global brands that are creating connected ecosystems meant to make day-to-day living a lot easier and more informed for consumers.
LG
At LG’s press conference on Monday, executives talked about the company’s plans for seamlessly integrating AI into daily life, labeling it “affectionate AI” and stating it has “visions for a zero-labor home where appliances take out all of the guesswork.” So what does this mean?
LG posits that your connected ecosystem is a friend and an assistant ready to take over so that you can spend time on what’s important—family, friends, relaxing. Devices work together on a holistic network to observe things like when you leave the house and then shutting off all the lights and TV while starting up your robot vacuum routine. Another example might be kicking on an air purifier automatically when it senses bad smells in the air from pets. To accomplish these interactive and anticipatory intelligence, LG is partnering with Microsoft.
While LG isn’t quite at the point of realizing its goal, this is where the brand is headed.
Samsung
Similarly, Samsung’s vision for 2025 and beyond is to use AI automation to integrate your life, calling it “Home AI” and stating, “By understanding your needs, it can infuse more joy and comfort into yourself.”
While LG integrates with its smart app ThinQ, Samsung employs both its app SmartThings and its virtual assistant Bixby. When using smart Samsung devices in the home, including those with screens, Bixby can recognize individual voices and grab personal preferences from the user’s mobile phone to customize the experience.
For many Americans, artificial intelligence and a connected world is exciting, and for others terrifying. We’ll have to wait to see how these concepts play out.
