Anyone who’s pushed a lawn mower around their yard knows the drill: your back will hurt, and you’ll smell like grass and gas by the time you’re done. That frustration has led many to turn to robot lawn mowers, something we’ve been continually fascinated with.
You’ve almost certainly heard of robot vacuum cleaners that can sweep and mop your floors when you aren’t even home, and these gadgets use a similar concept to trim your grass while you kick back with a drink and relax. Ecovacs just unveiled a new version of their Goat robot lawn mower at CES 2025, and we’re naming it a winner for saving time and frustration.
It’s like adopting a goat that eats your lawn
Ecovacs made significant improvements to their previous model of the Goat with the A3000, including its increased runtime of an hour and 10 minutes (on a 45-minute charge) to mow around three acres, and better accuracy at seeing obstacles and objects in your yard. It uses lidar, sensors, and cameras—two in both the front and back—so it avoids your garden, pool, and other areas you want it to stay away from.
It can go up and down hills without issue, using two disc blade cutters to give your lawn a nice, clean finish. But there are a couple of downsides. If your grass is longer than eight inches, you’ll have to break out your real lawn mower since this robot can only handle so much. There is also only one cutting height, so if you’d prefer to cut the grass a little shorter or longer, you’re out of luck.
The Ecovacs Goat A3000 is expected to arrive in February 2025, but the brand has other smart home gadgets available now. Check out their window cleaner robot to see another way you can automate your home maintenance this summer.
