After a long New England winter, I prioritize being outside during the warm summer and soaking up as much sun as possible. However, some days are sweltering and humid, making it challenging to enjoy lounging or entertaining outdoors. Sometimes, you have to make your own when there is no breeze in the forecast. This is where a misting fan like the Lasko Misto (available at Amazon) can make a big difference.

The Misto cools down your outdoor space using a blower fan and mist. I was very curious to see how it worked and decided to put it to the test. It's easy to set up and offers a cool breeze—just be prepared to get wet. Here's what I think of the Lasko Misto misting fan.

The Lasko Misto features three misting nozzles, three speeds, and a 90-degree pivoting blower.

Lasko has been a leader in high-quality fans for over a hundred years and frequently has products that rank on our best-right-now fan list. The Lakso Misto is a portable misting fan that can reduce outdoor air temperatures by 25 degrees.

The Misto is designed for your convenience. It effortlessly connects to a standard hose hookup, and with its three-speed options, you can easily find your ideal comfort level. It's a breeze to use, quite literally.

In addition to the selection of speeds, there is a 90-degree pivoting capability to tilt the blower up and down. You can also choose if you want to use the fan with or without the mister.

The Misto, measuring just 6/25 inches long and under 15 inches in height (about the size of a toaster oven) and weighing 16 pounds, is portable and built with safety in mind. It features a three-prong grounded safety plug that automatically cuts power to the fan if an electrical fault is detected. This safety feature ensures your peace of mind while you enjoy the cool breeze.

The Lasko Misto is a smart investment at $121.50, backed by a 1-year limited manufacturer’s warranty. If a misting fan isn’t your style, our list of the best portable fans offers a variety of options. But remember, the Misto is not just a fan, it's a cooling solution that can transform your outdoor experience.

How we tested the Lasko Misto Outdoor Misting Fan

You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how powerful the misting nozzles are, even at the lowest speed.

While most people use a misting fan by their patio or deck, I tested mine in my driveway. My neighborhood is very social, and folks always walk by with their dogs. My family and I love sitting in our driveway on lovely days and chatting with friends and neighbors as they pass by. We are also the house with a driveway fire pit in the fall and winter months.

The other great thing about my driveway is easy access to an outdoor electrical outlet and a spigot. You will need both of these things to run your misting fan. The Misto has a 9-inch hose that attaches to a standard garden hose. Be sure to have yours ready; you’ll need that extra length to position the fan.

The fan has a 72-inch power cord and uses Blue Plug safety fuse technology, so it can be safely placed almost anywhere outdoors. However, the cord wasn’t long enough, so I used a three-prong extension cord.

I set up my towel and chair about seven feet from the unit and started on the lowest setting. Everything got saturated with water, so I continued moving the chair until I found a comfortable spot around 14 feet away.

Even on the lowest setting, I was impressed with the fan's power. When I tested the highest setting, I was almost 20 feet away before I found my ideal positioning.

What we like

Easy setup instructions mean you’ll find cooling relief quickly

The 9-foot water supply hose with a convenient shut-off valve easily attaches to your garden hose.

The Lasko Misto is a breeze to set up and use, especially if you have a garden hose and a three-prong extension cord ready. However, I had to quickly search the garage to find the correct extension cord when I realized that the attached cord wasn’t long enough. Once everything is in place, you're just a few steps away from enjoying a cool outdoor space.

Once your garden hose is hooked up, you can attach the water supply hose to it and turn on the speed switch.

My favorite feature is the shut-off valve. This saves you from turning the spigot on and off as you play with the settings. Note that if the speed button is set to zero, it will still spray mist.

It would help if you turned the shut-off valve to completely stop the water flow.

Smart design features help you find the optimal level of comfort

Another great feature of the Lasko Misto is the 90-degree pivoting blower. Depending on the location and height of your seat and the size of the area you are trying to cool, the ability to adjust the height of the misters is critical. I used a lawn chair during my testing and found that the highest-level pivot worked best for me.

The three different speed levels are also excellent because you can increase how intense the fan is blowing depending on how cool you want it to get.

Even if you don’t have a water supply available, you can still make use of the Lasko Misto. It's designed to be versatile, allowing you to use the fan without the misters. This flexibility puts you in control of your comfort, no matter the circumstances.

The Misto is sturdy yet portable

The Misto is strong and durable without being bulky. At 16 pounds, it is highly manageable, and the built-in handle makes it easy to transport. The unit has a low profile for extra stability, so it won’t tip over easily.

The high-quality materials are weather, UV, and rust-resistant, so you can use it anywhere outside. When I was done for the day, I stored it back in the garage.

What we don’t like

It takes some time to find the right distance between you and the fan

Be aware that the area surrounding the Misto will get wet.

The air temperature, humidity level, and how high or low you have fan settings will impact the performance. Finding the ideal distance to set up the fan to avoid excess moisture takes a little trial and error. However, the ground around the unit will get wet.

I didn’t test it on grass, but I would keep it on a hard surface or prop it on something to avoid the ground getting too soggy.

While testing the blower range, I got wet trying to find the proper distance where there was more cool breeze than water. If you are sitting on a deck, the deck will get damp, and chances are your patio furniture will too.

The oscillator doesn’t do what you think it does

When you think of an oscillating fan, you probably think of the fan head moving side to side or up and down. That is not the case with the Lasko Misto. There is a 90-degree pivoting blower, but it is entirely manual.

The oscillate button doesn’t make the fan move. Inside the blower are small flaps, called louvers, which the oscillating function controls. However, I didn’t really notice a difference when I pressed the button.

What other owners are saying

The Lasko Misto is a popular outdoor misting fan model. With close to 2,776 Amazon reviews and a 4.4 out of 5-star rating, there is a lot to love about the Misto. Owners in hot, dry areas love the Mitso’s ability to cool down temperatures up to 25 degrees so they can enjoy life outside. They also mention how powerful the blower is for the size of the unit. Many user reviews show dogs love the Misto as much as humans.

The biggest complaint about the Misto is from users who get excessively wet when using it. However, as noted above, it is essential to understand how environmental factors impact how much moisture is absorbed in the air.

There is also a lot of disappointment and confusion around the oscillate button, with some calling it useless.

Should you buy the Lasko Misto outdoor misting fan?

Use the Lasko Misto as a misting fan or turn off the water source and use it as a regular fan.

The Lasko Misto misting fan will help you maximize the use of your outdoor space, especially if you live in a hot, humid area. Be prepared with your garden hose and extension cord to make set-up a breeze. While there is some trial and error to find the ideal settings for whatever the day's weather brings, it is well worth getting wet when you know you will dry off quickly.

Play around with the unit and get a feel for the three different blower speeds before adding the mist component. I enjoyed seeing how strong the fan performed and how far its reach was. Suppose you are aware that the fan itself doesn’t oscillate. In that case, the blower must be manually adjusted, then you won’t be disappointed with that feature.

It is easy to understand why kids and dogs like cooling off in the misting spray. Overall, the Lasko Misto is a solid misting fan. However, if misting isn’t for you, check out our list of the best portable fans to help keep you cool.
