Costa Farms is a well-known plant nursery and supplier based in Miami, Florida that sells a variety of plants and gardening supplies on Amazon. With ample plants and products available for free shipping with my Prime membership, I decided to skip the trip to my local nursery and purchase Costa Farms plants online instead.

Many of Costa Farms' plants have thousands of glowing Amazon reviews, so I decided to try out a few different types of indoor plants like the dieffenbachia, aloe vera, and a bird of paradise.

I’ve had some trouble with receiving large plants by mail in the past (imagine soil everywhere), and since the plants were coming via Amazon I was curious to see how quick and clean the delivery was. Here's all about my experience ordering Costa Farms plants on Amazon.

What is Costa Farms?

Costa Farms is known for its high-quality plants and expertise in the horticulture industry—and you can shop Costa Farms on Amazon. Many of the plants have thousands of reviews on Amazon averaging four stars out of five stars and higher.

Costa Farms plants are grown using sustainable practices, and their extensive selection includes indoor and outdoor plants. In addition to plants, Costa Farms offers a range of gardening supplies such as soils, fertilizers, and planters. By also selling on Amazon, the company’s plants can be delivered quickly to your doorstep without delays.

What we like about Costa Farms

There are a lot of plants to choose from

Costa Farms has a wide selection of plants on Amazon for relatively affordable prices. You can find popular plants like a fiddle leaf fig, peace lily, or snake plant as well as cacti, some flowering plants, and subscription boxes. Most plants have several sizes and pot options including various planters to choose from.

I was happy with the variety of plants offered online, and found it to be just almost as many options as going to a local nursery.

The secure Costa Farms packaging ensured that my new plant friends would arrive safely and ready to go, with prepped soil and all.

I had a positive experience with my plant babies from Costa Farms. Each plant arrived in individual boxes, which had markings to tell delivery services to keep them upright and treat them as fragile items.

Upon unboxing, only a little soil fell from the plant and I noticed that each pot came with a heat pack to keep it warm. I tested the service during cooler weather, so the included heat pack was a welcome sight.

The plants had plastic wrapped around the base and pot, which kept the soil and heat in and the plant’s roots and stem intact.

The plants are easy to repot and grow well

My experience with Costa Farms has been successful thus far, with little to no wilting or pests disturbing their growth.

Repotting the plants was easy, and is a chore I look forward to. I used my own soil and pots that I already had on hand even though some plants came with a plastic pot—more on that in a minute.

Now, weeks after repotting, two of my three plants are doing fantastic. The Aloe Vera plant is vibrant and spiky as it should be with no signs of rot, excessive drying, or pests. I’m looking forward to using it this summer as an aide to potential sunburns.

Dieffenbachia is also thriving. I haven’t seen any new growth and there are a few yellowing leaves, but I’ve had several other plants of this kind and that’s par for the course, especially where I have it located.

What I didn’t like about Costa Farms

Although the packaging was fairly decent, a few missteps still occurred.

Some minor damage may happen during transit of larger plants

While the plants came well-packaged, my Bird of Paradise plant had a broken branch when I unboxed it. It was a bit disappointing to see on a brand-new plant. It also happened to be the tallest branch with the largest leaf, so the plant looked sad instead of jungle-like.

The break was likely caused by transport or delivery, but it’s certainly something to weigh if you’re considering a larger plant. It may be a better idea to stick to ordering smaller plants from Costa Farms on Amazon to avoid this issue.

The Costa Farms grow pots can be flimsy

While I like that Costa Farms provides pots with each plant, two of the pots I received were made from flimsy plastic and made me question the longevity.

Each pot was slightly misshapen from how it had been squeezed into the box around the plant and heat packs as well. Though the pots might have readjusted back to a more circular shape, the biggest deterrent to using them was that they were each too small for the plant that it was meant to be used with.

The roots of the aloe and bird of paradise plants wouldn’t fit in their respective pots which would likely stunt growth or cause root rot.

You may need to purchase additional pots in order for your new plants to grow. I ended up using other pots I had on hand to repot the plants and give them room to grow, and I recommend you do the same if you order from Costa Farms.

Should you buy plants from Costa Farms?

Yes, it makes ordering plants easy and simple

Aside from the reasonable pricing and the variety of plant options, Costa Farms is a reliable option when it comes to gardening this spring.

The Costa Farms plants I ordered on Amazon are healthy, growing well, and have great color. This is an easy way to get plants delivered right to your door without having to leave the house.

Aside from a broken branch, I was satisfied with the delivery and quality. I felt the prices, which ranged from $17 to $48 for my small, medium, and large plants, were all fair for what I got, too, offering great value when. However, I recommend purchasing things in just the grower pot option and using a terracotta or ceramic planter of your own.

If you’re looking for new plants for your home, especially indoors, Costa Farms is a great option.
