A closer look at the Beatbot AquaSense Pro robot pool vacuum.

The AquaSense Pro is what Beatbot calls its most advanced robotic pool cleaner. In addition to everything on its spec sheet, the AquaSense Pro uses SonicSens ultrasonic technology to create a virtual map of the pool it is cleaning and then proceed to clean said pool in S and N-shaped patterns. It is also capable of picking up particles up to 150 micrometers in size and can withstand temperatures of up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit while in use.

How we tested the Beatbot AquaSense Pro

I used the Beatbot AquaSense Pro to clean a 40,000-gallon pool about 40 feet by 30 feet. The pool has curved edges, with rounded stairs in the shallow end and two sunken single-step platforms elsewhere. It measures 1,200 square feet, which is within the AquaSense Pro’s reported max capacity of 3,229 square feet.

Beatbot’s AquaSense Pro has four distinct cleaning modes to help cover every inch of the pool.

It’s swimming with features

Beatbot markets the AquaSense Pro as the “world’s first all-in-one intelligent pool cleaning robot.” It’s a bold claim, but this hefty cleaner has plenty of specs to back it up. In no particular order, the AquaSense Pro has 20 sensors, nine motors, four brushes, two files, five distinct cleaning modes, and up to 9.5 hours of continuous runtime. Whew.

The AquaSense Pro’s features stretch beyond the numbers, though. Those 20 sensors are designed to analyze and map your pool, allowing it to navigate the waters and obstacles that follow easily. It’s also intended to utilize S-shaped and N-shaped cleaning patterns for pool floors and walls to maximize efficiency.

Based on my observations, that extensive array of sensors came in handy for my pool, which leans towards the larger side and has a non-traditional layout. The AquaSense Pro covered a lot of ground in my pool (with one notable exception), and it did so without having to retrace its steps too frequently as it traversed from the deepest depths of my in-ground pool (about 10 feet) to its most shallow (a roughly one-foot swim platform).

As for those nine motors I mentioned earlier? Beatbot says they collectively provide up to 5,500 gallons per hour of suction power, making the AquaSense Pro seemingly well-equipped to handle any debris that floats its way. The property surrounding my home is mostly farmland, meaning lots of dust and dirt find their way into the water. Thankfully, the AquaSense Pro was impressively adept at collecting even the more sizable dirt clods that find their way into the pool.

It’s self-sufficient and easy to use

The AquaSense Pro’s functionality is straightforward. It’s easy to charge, with an included, outdoor compatible docking station. It also charges relatively quickly, going from nearly tapped out to fully charged in a little over three hours.

Operating the AquaSense Pro is a breeze, thanks to a user-friendly interface on the cleaner itself. The five buttons are designed to streamline the process: a power button; Quick Mode (cleans the floor once); Standard Mode (cleans floor, wall, and waterline once); Pro Mode: (cleans floor, walls, waterline, and surface once); and finally, and Eco Mode that cleans the floor once every other day. It proved incredibly simple to place the AquaSense Pro in the water, set the mode that I wanted the cleaner to utilize with the help of its on-body buttons, and watch as the robot got to work.

One of the standout features of the AquaSense Pro is its ability to resurface automatically after a cleaning cycle. This is a significant advantage over other robot pool vacuums like the Aiper Scuba S1, which requires you to fish it out of the bottom of the pool yourself.

There are some not-so-easy elements of the cleaner, like that, at 38 pounds, it’s heavier than other models I have tested (the Aiper Scuba S1 clocks in at around 23 pounds). But for the most part, Beatbot made a pool cleaner that doesn’t need much supervision to do its thing.

It cleans reasonably well

I say reasonably well because it's far-fetched at this point to expect a robot pool cleaner to pick up every leaf whenever it trolls around your pool. With appropriate expectations, though, the AquaSense Pro is impressive in terms of how much it can help keep your pool clean.

The AquaSense Pro's best cleaning feature is the Standard Mode. While it wasn’t flawless, it picked up a considerable amount of debris and covered most of the pool before the battery started to dip, leaving a noticeably cleaner watering hole in its wake.

If there were spots that it missed before the battery was exhausted, I noticed that after it was recharged, it didn’t return to where it stopped cleaning on the previous cycle. For the most part, though, it thoroughly cleaned a sizable space with the battery life it has to work with.

The AquaSense Pro robot pool vacuum’s app leaves something to be desired

It struggled with some parts of the pool

The AquaSensePro doesn’t like oddly placed corners—or steps, stairs, or most other things that fall outside a pool's standard dimensions. Your mileage may vary, but while the AquaSense Pro could climb walls well, the second it came across a step or sitting ledge in my pool, it didn’t know what to do with it.

This isn’t the biggest of deals, as it eventually just moved on and went to clean other areas. If you have a rather unique pool, though, with its fair share of twists and turns, be advised that the AquaSense Pro might be a bit puzzled sometimes.

It has an underwhelming app

Beatbot’s app has some utility, including the ability to choose among the different cleaning modes that the AquaSense Pro is capable of or customize your own cleaning routine. It can also provide status updates and send notification alerts.

Outside of that, though, there just isn’t much that would make you want (or need) to download the app. There isn’t a wealth of smart home integrations to tap into, routines to set, or voice assistant compatibility to pair with. Maybe pool cleaner apps don’t need bells and whistles. But this app felt unnecessary for AquaSense Pro users.

It is (wildly) expensive

At $2,220, the Aquasense Pro is one of the most costly pool robot vacuums. It's pricer than the Aiper Scuba S1 ($700) and our favorite, the Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus ($800).

For all the AquaSense Pro does offer, it feels like it shouldn’t have the blemishes that it does at this price point. If you make a remarkable investment in a smart pool cleaner, you will want something that gets to every spot in your pool every time. You’re also going to want an intuitive app that adds to the experience. That just isn’t the case with the AquaSense Pro.

Should you buy the Beatbot AquaSense Pro robotic pool cleaner?

Maybe, if it's within your budget

The Beatbot AquaSense Pro robot pool vacuum is powerful, but at great cost to your wallet.

The Beatbot AquaSense Pro is good at what it does. There is no denying that. It has a luxury list of features, cleans pools effectively without an extraordinary amount of legwork, and prioritizes efficiency wherever it can.

At the same time, it needs help with certain aspects of pools (corners and steps, to name a few), an underwhelming app, and an astronomical price tag. If you can afford it, the pros certainly outweigh the non-dealbreaker cons. But that’s quite the “if” sitting at the center of this decision.

If the price of the AquaSense Pro isn’t right, we have an entire roundup of the best robotic pool cleaners with options that may be a little more friendly on the wallet. That said, they won’t all have the performance that the AquaSense Pro is capable of. If you want a nearly spotless pool without lifting a finger, you’ll have to pay for it.
