Last week, wellness brand HoMedics announced a recall of over 46,000 of its Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers sold from September 2020 to November 2023 through stores across the nation, in addition to over 41,000 massagers sold in Canada. These products were sold in BJs, Macy’s, The Home Depot, and on Amazon.
The recall follows 17 reports of the massagers overheating, leading to one instance of a user burning their thumb on the device. The recall is under effect for devices manufactured through 2022, according to the company.
Those who have purchased the recalled massager are urged to stop using it immediately and contact HoMedics to receive instructions on how to get a refund either in cash or in credit towards a new HoMedics product.
What HoMedics massagers were recalled?
HoMedics Therapist Select Percussion Massagers manufactured through the end of 2022 have been recalled. The manufacturing date can be determined by looking on the underside of the barrel for a sticker. This sticker will have a four-digit date code, with the last two digits denoting the year. These massagers were sold in various stores from September 2020 to November 2023.
Alternative massagers to buy instead
If you’re looking to try out a new massager entirely instead of using your refund for a new HoMedics model, we’ve tested plenty of safe massagers for you to use.
The recalled HoMedics massager is specifically a massage gun, so if you’re looking for an upgrade as a replacement, you can do no better than the Theragun Elite, which we found to be the best massage gun out there. We love the Theragun Elite because it’s comfortable to hold and its Bluetooth capability gives you access to a cool app that helps you massage more effectively.
Our favorite massage gun can connect to Bluetooth to upgrade your massage.
For a massage gun with a price more comparable to the recalled HoMedics model (which retailed for about $100), we recommend our value pick for the best massage gun, the Vybe Pro Percussion Massage Gun. This massage gun is versatile thanks to its varied speed options and compatibility with various attachments.
For a more affordable alternative to the Theragun Elite, go with the Vybe Pro.
