After seeing the likes of Naruto, The Weekend, and Peter Griffin crash the popular battle royale, gamers can no longer truly be surprised by upcoming Fortnite collabs. That is until Lego Fortnite was revealed earlier today in a fairly impressive trailer. The new game mode is a natural pairing, considering that Fortnite is known for action-packed crafting mechanics.

What is Lego Fortnite?

The new collaboration isn't a new game, and players can access it on whatever platform they play Fortnite on, which at this point, includes all major consoles, PC, Mac, and all manner of smart devices. It is decidedly more family-friendly than other Fortnite game modes. Lego Fortnite smacks of Minecraft, especially since it revolves around survival, crafting, and cooperation.

Players brave "wide-open brickspaces" to fight hordes of monsters, collect valuable resources, construct buildings, and level up humble hamlets into thriving villages. There are two procedurally generated modes players can pick from encompassing a wide array of landscapes, whether they're playing alone or with friends.

  • Survival World: Players are dropped in the middle of a vast open world where they must take on the role of hero. In this case, this means braving the wilds to gather resources, build impressive structures, craft weapons and tools for defense, and most of all, explore deeper and deeper into the unknown.

This includes slaying the occasional enemy, which ranges from werewolves to pirates. As each game progresses, players unlock new blueprints, discover new secrets, and unlock bigger and better buildings, tools, and weapons.

  • Sandbox World: This is the closest thing players will have to having an endless box of Legos to themselves. There are no stakes here, just a never-ending supply of building elements to make all Lego based fantasies a reality. Aside from the limitless resources, players will also be able to explore without the dangers of enemies storming the gates. They can even fly through the sky.

When is Lego Fortnite out?

The best news about the announcement of this new game mode is that it's already live. After a quick update, you'll be able to play this new mode alone or with friends. Like every other game mode, Lego Fortnite is rife with parental controls, though what that entails depends on which platform it's played on.
