Why we love the Xbox Series X
Simply put, the Xbox Series X is one of the best video game consoles we've ever tested. When it comes to hardware, our tester was in awe of its "legitimate 4K and HDR gaming" at a framerate of 60 or 120 Hertz that makes amazing graphics, shocking color detail, and unparalleled smoothness. Its advanced tech also means little to no loading times for the latest titles you boot up, plus the Quick Resume feature lets you jump right back to where you were when you were playing last. The included controller is no bland accessory, as its "grippier, textured plastic" found on the rear of its chassis makes it easier to hold, while its new d-pad feels crisper.
Speaking from personal experience, the Xbox Series X feels like luxury gaming. Its design is both understated and significant, big enough to be a media table centerpiece but not awkwardly shaped to keep it from working in simple spots. Its main menu interface is easy to navigate, downloading and upgrading titles is a breeze, and there are plenty of customization options (I set my menu to look like the original Xbox menu for nostalgia's sake). All of that is even before I experienced some of the smoothest gameplay experiences I've ever had on any console, from intense shooters in Apex Legends to breezy bike rides on Lonely Mountains Downhill. It's also great at cross-generational gaming: I played Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi from an Xbox 360-released Sega Dreamcast collection and it was amazing to play those titles that are nearly 25 years old. Basically, the Xbox Series X is a great way to play any kind of game.
What about Xbox Game Pass Ultimate?
Ahh, excellent question! With the Amazon bundle, you'll get access to three months of a quality game streaming service: Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. For those out of the loop, Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft's answer to Netflix for gaming that allows subscribers to access hundreds of titles from the entire history of Xbox. Game Pass Ultimate lets its members play those games not only on consoles, but also on PCs and smartphones via cloud gaming. So if you're in the middle of a quest in Rise of the Tomb Raider at home and have to catch a train, you can keep playing on your smartphone. You can see if it fits your gaming style for a two-week trial before paying the $16.99 monthly fee through Microsoft.
Is the Xbox Series X worth it?
Absolutely! Microsoft's flagship console has all the bells and whistles to give you the best possible gaming experience whether you like racing, shooting, platforming or...whatever the heck Fortnite is up to nowadays. One of the only downsides of the Series X is its hefty price tag, which makes these holiday discounts all the better for your budget. See the savings for yourself and find out which one works best.
