This is the best looking electric gooseneck kettle we’ve tried, but looks aren’t all it has going for it.

With a gooseneck spout for optimal pour-over flow rate, a color LCD display, and push-dial control for selecting temperature, hold time, and a host of other customizable features, this sleek kettle effortlessly combines form with function.

For coffee and tea drinkers looking to add a little high-tech luxury to their morning brew experience, the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Gooseneck Kettle (available at Amazon) is the priciest yet the loveliest electric kettle we’ve ever tested.

What is the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle?

The sleek exterior of this stylish coffee bar companion belies the multitude of features beneath the surface.

The second iteration of Fellow’s fan-favorite electric gooseneck kettle, the Stagg EKG Pro serenely houses all the bells and whistles a coffee-lover could wish for in their brewing companion. This iteration still features an LED screen and brew timer, but offers more features, such as customizable altitude, hold time, and scheduling settings.

The adjustable precision temperature settings ensure the water is heated to the perfect temperature for your desired beverage—from 104°F to 212°F. Guide Mode takes the guesswork out of selecting the appropriate temperature for five popular beverages—like 180° for green tea and 205° for pour-over coffee—by labeling the pre-set temperature options on the LED screen.

This new model also connects to Wi-Fi for firmware updates, which means existing features can be adjusted and new features can be added over time. The app doesn’t currently allow you to control the kettle remotely, but it adds more longevity to the device overall.

All of these features put the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro on the higher end of the price spectrum for electric kettles, and opting for wood accents or the Studio Edition with a full glass-topped base pushes that price even higher.

How we tested the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle

We made hot beverages all day long to see how the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle performs.

From pour-over coffee to tea at every temperature, we put the kettle through its paces with daily use and cleaning. We also asked multiple people to use the kettle and provide feedback on their experience.

In addition to testing time-to-boil and ensuring accurate temperatures were reached, we used all of the extra features to evaluate ease-of-use and functionality.

What we like

It heats water quickly

Precision temperature control and customizable features make the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle a worthy coffee bar companion.

A temperature progress meter appears on the LED screen to show you how fast the water is heating to your desired temp, and it happens fast. You’ll have water for tea in about three and a half minutes, and exactly 205°F water for pour-over coffee in just under five minutes.

Considering that the original Fellow Stagg EKG was amongst the slowest in our previous testing, this is a welcome upgrade to the Pro edition.

Adjustable temperature selection makes for hot beverage perfection

We love being able to dial in the perfect water temperature for whatever beverage we’re making. Whether that’s green tea, black tea, French press, or pour-over coffee—there’s never any guessing or a thermometer needed to determine when the water hits the right temperature.

To make it even easier, we switched this Fellow kettle into Guide Mode, which displays five preset temperatures, to reduce the amount of scrolling required to select the exact temperature for our favorite beverages.

Customizable features make it fun to use

Use the push-dial to customize settings on the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Gooseneck Kettle.

Many of this kettle’s features are customizable, from displaying the clock in digital or analog format, to setting your altitude, it’s easy to make it your own. You can turn on and customize the volume of the alert sound, although we found that even at its loudest it was still too quiet during the hubbub of the morning routine.

Thankfully, if you do miss the beep and forget about it for a bit, the Stagg EKG Pro will hold the hot water at temp for a specified length of time—30 minutes is the default, but you can customize it to 15, 45, or 60 minutes in the menu.

The design is minimalist and sleek

While other kettles with variable temperature options have an array of buttons on display, the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle accomplishes the same functionality in a sleeker design.

Its base is unobtrusive and the LED display can either display the clock or be turned off when the kettle is not in use.

The base model comes in matte black or matte white, with upgrades available for black with walnut accents or an on-trend smoke green color with maple accents.

What we don’t like

Unmarked buttons present a bit of a learning curve

The unmarked buttons take some getting used to—a tradeoff for the sleek design.

While the minimalist design makes this electric gooseneck kettle quite appealing, the unmarked buttons take a little getting used to. The dial sets the desired temperature, and then automatically activates heating. I accidentally turned the kettle off a few times by pressing the dial button, inadvertently thinking I was pushing “start.”

The interaction between the menu button and the dial button can be confusing, especially considering all of the options they control. The dial button allows quick access to heating and temperature control, while the menu button deactivates heating to display the menu. From there, you solely use the dial button to configure settings, and return to the menu button only to reactivate the heating capability.

We got the hang of it after a few misfires, but wish the accompanying manual or app had better user interface explanations.

The vent hole can drip if not carefully positioned

This Fellow kettle is designed for a slow, steady pour so if you try to pour too quickly and the vent hole is skewed closer to the spout, we found that water will come through the hole while pouring.

We found it best to position the vent directly opposite the pour spout so that no water would escape through it. Keeping a slow, steady pour can also easily mitigate this issue.

The schedule function is spotty

Despite a recent firmware update that was supposed to address the schedule function, we still had trouble getting the kettle to respond to a scheduled start time.

Since the time-to-boil is so quick, the schedule feature wasn’t a big consideration in our enjoyment of the kettle, but it’s something to note. The benefit of Wi-Fi-enabled firmware updates is that the company can address the issue and push additional updates to fix the issue.
