Whether you're celebrating a birthday or just craving sweets during movie night, sometimes gourmet dessert delivery is called for. We love brands like Baked By Melissa for shipping high quality treats to our door (with zero effort on our part), so we were excited to try Shark Tank-famous brand The Dirty Cookie (available at Dirty Cookie) .
This gourmet cookie brand puts a unique twist on packaged desserts, from ready-to-fill cookie shots to indulgent stuffed cookies that will take your next party or chill-night-in to the next level. We gave these desserts a try to see whether they're worth ordering next time you have a craving.
About Dirty Cookie
Founded by Shahira Marei in 2017, The Dirty Cookie became popular after being featured on season 13 of Shark Tank. After striking a deal with Robert Herjavec, Marei was able to expand the production of her business, and it took off from there.
Now, The Dirty Cookie delivers gourmet packaged treats across the country, with cookie shots, stuffed cookies, and decorating kits available to ship nationwide.
What we like about The Dirty Cookie
The desserts are unique and delicious
The stuffed cookies come in a wide range of flavors, from Chocolate Chip Nutella to Peanut Butter and Jelly.
We wanted to get a well-rounded feel for the brand's offerings, so we ordered a few things from The Dirty Cookie to gauge our opinion of the brand. We tried a variety pack of The Dirty Cookie's stuffed cookies, including Chocolate Chip Nutella, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and White Chocolate Cookie Butter.
Of course, we had to give the iconic cookie shots a try, so we also tested a pack of Double Chocolate Cookie Shots, which happen to be both vegan and gluten-free.
Box instructions recommend warming these cookies for a few seconds in the microwave before enjoying them, which we did for both varieties.
Each treat we tried was delicious: The cookie shots were soft and decadently chocolatey, while the stuffed cookies were moist and gooey—especially after being warmed. Each flavor was tasty (without being too sweet), and especially great when paired with milk.
We love that the cookie shot stayed intact while we sipped milk from it, and thought it would be great in a more creative dessert, like stuffed with a mousse or cheesecake filling.
There are options for folks with dietary restrictions
The double chocolate cookie shots are both vegan and gluten-free, making them a great option for anyone with dietary restrictions.
As someone who personally struggles with finding gluten-free desserts in the wild, I was very excited to see that the site offers gluten-free (and vegan!) options.
Currently, the only option for anyone looking for gluten-free or plant-based treats is the Double Chocolate Cookie Shots, but we found them to be an excellent option. The texture is soft and chewy, and it starts to melt in your mouth after a few seconds in the microwave. Most Reviewed staffers who tasted it couldn't tell that it was gluten-free or vegan—so we're taking that as a good sign!
Plus, every treat on The Dirty Cookie's site is certified kosher, and the brand is planning to expand its options for vegan and gluten-free customers. Any new launches can be followed via the brand's newsletter.
They're fun to decorate
Opting for The Dirty Cookie's DIY decoration kit means you can experiment with colorful sprinkles and melted chocolate.
To turn these desserts into more of an interactive experience, opt for one of the DIY decorating kits. These come with colorful edible decorations, sprinkles, and meltable chocolate to put everything together. They're great for birthday parties and other themed events. (And the sprinkles are tasty!)
What we don't like
They come at a premium cost
Just a six-pack of stuffed cookies costs $35 plus shipping.
Although it's to be expected for a gourmet food delivery service, The Dirty Cookie can be pricey, especially if you're looking to get enough to feed a party.
Just a pack of six shots or stuffed cookies goes for $35, and the vegan/gluten-free pack goes up to $45 (plus shipping).
Opting for a dozen of either treat will help you save a little, at $55 (or $70 for the dietary-friendly shots). But comparing that to a competitor like Milk Bar, which also offers specialty cookies, shows it has a significantly higher price tag.
That means you'll likely only be able to indulge in these cookies on very special occasions—and maybe not when there are large crowds to feed.
Should you buy treats from The Dirty Cookie?
Yes, especially for special occasions!
When you're looking to treat yourself, indulging in The Dirty Cookie will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.
All in all, we think these cookies are worth the hype. The cookie shots are a fun way to shake up your dessert routine, especially when incorporating some of The Dirty Cookie's suggested recipes or DIY decorating kits. And the stuffed cookies are a real treat, particularly after being warmed in the microwave.
Since these desserts are such a premium product, though, you'll probably want to save them for irregular, special occasions—whether that be a birthday or a treat-yourself night in.
Enjoy a variety of different cookies and DIY desserts with many featuring a variety of different dietary options.
