*October 31, 2005 - *Today the Recording Energy & Media division of Sony Europe announced a 5GB CompactFlash type II card under the new brand name of COMPACTVAULT. Unlike Sony’s MemorySticks, which are only compatible with Sony products, the new card is compatible with any camera that takes type II CF cards.
Céline Haffner, Product Manager of Sony RME said in a press release, "The COMPACTVAULT is the next step in the development of our removable media family. It offers high storage capacity for state-of-the-art digital cameras, such as the new Sony Cybershot R1."
The 1-inch square 5GB card has a native transfer rate of up to 96.7 Mbps, and with 5GB it can hold up to 1600 images of roughly 5 MP each, or 4 hours of MPEG-4 video. It is compatible with computer systems running Windows Me or higher.
The COMPACTVAULT will be available in Europe in November.
