November 30, 2005 - Panasonic is hoping to double its market share of the mobile phone market in Malaysia from five percent to ten percent by the end of 2006, and part of its strategy includes camera phones. Yesterday in Petaling Jaya Panasonic launched the VS3, VS6, and VS7, three phones that come with cameras included. The VS3 has 1.3 megapixels and 4x digital zoom, while the VS6 and VS7 have 2 megapixels and 5x digital zoom. All three have a QVGA TFT LCD.
Hoh Li Jun, manager for mobile communication, business systems division, said, "The VS series are mainly targeted at college students and young working adults." Hoh claims that this is the market segment most likely to change phones more often, but declined to confirm if this group was most likely to regard included cameras as an important feature.
