Olympus has announced pricing and availability for the E-PL3, the "middle child" in its family of PEN micro four-thirds cameras. The model will hit stores in September at an MSRP of $699.99. The E-PL3 is a compact, interchangeable-lens camera capable of "professional image quality," according to Olympus.

The unit is equipped with a 3.0-inch tilt LCD, and will ship with either a 14-42mm wide angle lens, or a 17mm portable pancake lens. Its 12.3 megapixel Live MOS sensor is capable of ISO levels up to 12,800, very fast autofocus, and is assisted by Olympus' new TruePic VI image processing software. The E-PL3 lies between the high-end E-P3 and the ultracompact E-PM1 in the company's latest generation of PEN digital cameras.

Olympus is also announcing price details for a new electronic viewfinder, the VF-3. Priced at $179.99, the VF-3 is compatible with all PEN models that are equipped with an accessory port, as well as the excellent Olympus XZ-1. Features include 100% field of view coverage, diopter adjustment, brightness and color temperature adjustment, and the ability to rotate the viewfinder 90-degrees.
