Olympus Hops on Bandwagon; Issues Service Advisory

October 13, 2005 - Attention Olympus owners: your cameras too may be affected by damaged CCDs. Olympus has issued a service advisory to owners of the C-5050 Zoom and C-730UZ, stating that some models may take pictures that are tinged with purple or gray, or are entirely black.

Though Olympus did not explicitly state that faulty CCDs were the reason for the dysfunction, the issues described in the advisory are identical to the problematic behavior exhibited by cameras with defective CCDs by other manufacturers.
