August 29, 2007 - Nikon last week announced it has partnered with the online image sharing site Flickr to launch the Nikon Digital Learning Center. According to the group website, the online tutorials aim to help any level photographer with "taking the photos they’ve always dreamed of capturing." The partnership between the major camera manufacturer and image sharing site is the first of its kind, according to a company press release.
"It’s great to see the momentum that this innovative advertising program has already gained over a short period of time, as a result of providing useful community tools and information for Nikon photographers on Flickr," said Flickr Director of Product Management Kakul Srivastava in the release. "The Nikon Digital Learning Center and the many official Nikon Groups on Flickr highlight one of the things that Flickr does best – connecting people with shared photography interests to help them learn and grow from each other’s experience."
According to a Flickr search, there are currently about 25,000 groups dedicated to the camera manufacturer, with 50,000 Flickr users around the world participating in one or more of the groups. In the Flickr online community, the Nikon D50 and D80 digital SLRs are among the most popular cameras, according to the release.
With the addition of the Nikon Digital Learning Center Flickr group, Nikon provides photography tips and lessons from professional photographers in the business. Nikon-sponsored pros Rosanne Pennella and Cliff Mautner, and Nikon School instructors Reed Hoffman and Bill Durrence, among others, will offer their input to Nikon enthusiasts.
Tutorials include aperture, shutter speed, and composition for action, travel, landscape, and portrait photography.
At the time of publication, there were more than 2,000 members in the new Nikon-sponsored Digital Learning Center group, with more than 1,100 photos uploaded. Membership to the Flickr website is free. For more information, visit the Nikon Digital Learning Center.
