*May 12, 2006 – *Mamiya hasn’t completely sunk through the cracks, but the camera manufacturer has definitely undergone some major remodeling in the past month. According to a May 10 press release, the Mamiya Camera division will be resurrected as its own company called Mamiya Digital Imaging. This announcement comes just weeks after Mamiya handed its optical equipment division over to Cosmos Digital Imaging Company, Ltd.
All of the changes shouldn’t reflect upon its sales and service in the United States, the press release stated. The Japanese camera maker will continue to expand its digital offerings, which now include the Mamiya ZD and Digital Back.
Cosmos Digital Imaging Company, Ltd., will become the new parent company beginning in September this year. The company’s expertise is in IT technology and software development. According to the press release, "Mamiya Digital Imaging will have the advantage of being able to focus solely on the development of new digital imaging technology and products for professional photographers."
