May 15, 2005 – Photography equipment distributor Intro2020 announced a new lightweight tripod designed for compact digital cameras. The Gorillapod’s three legs are made with ball and socket joints that have full rotation and can bend around poles and trees and such. This go-anywhere type of tripod retails for £19.99, which is about $37.
The tiny Gorillapod’s legs are less than 6 inches long, but they can bend and wrap around fences or anything stable. The tripod has rubber grips on its feet so it can be used as a standard tripod on a flat surface too. The Gorillapod comes equipped with a quick release plate that snaps into the tripod and screws onto the camera with its quarter-inch mount.
Available at http://www.intro2020.co.uk/pages/gpod1.htm, the Gorillapod can only handle compact cameras up to 11.8 ounces.
