March 30, 2006 - Leica yesterday announced a firmware update to its Digital-Modul-R. The firmware, version 1.2, ensures compatibility with Mac OS 10.3 and SD cards up to 4 GB. It also improves the in-camera Japanese language menu and fixes some kinks in the saving in-camera settings process. Supposedly, the firmware update also improves color reproduction in images, though Leica has stated that the update may actually make it worse.
"Much to our regret some customers are experiencing a slight colour cast when playing pictures back on the modules display after updating with the version 1.2," Leica states on its website. "Leica Camera will provide an improved version of the new firmware regarding this function shortly."
Users can get the update at http://www.leica-camera.com/digitalekameras/digitalmodul/downloads/index_e.html, and can install it by putting it onto an SD card and loading the card into the Digital-Modul-R digital back.
