November 29, 2004* — The Digital Imaging Websites Association (DIWA) passed an Innovation Award to the SanDisk Extreme III flash memory cards last Friday. The Extreme III card series was awarded the citation for its newly developed ESP or Enhanced Super-Parallel Processing. The ESP technology allows the card to read and write at speeds of about 20 megabytes per second — about twice as fast as the average transfer speed on the market today. The cards are constructed using NAND Flash memory chips and 32-bit RISC processing controller chips. The cards can also work in an expanded temperature range of -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, making them a practical option for professional photographers in difficult climates. SanDisk Extreme III cards can survive a beating; they’ve been shock and vibration tested. The cards even come with software, RescuePRO, to recover photos that have been accidentally deleted.
