Accessibility is a year-round commitment for the best brands, which means savings are at their sweetest on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Whether you're in the market for some hands-free shoes, an OTC hearing aid, or just want a super-inclusive toy for your kids, this list has some exceptional deals and sales for members and allies of the disability community.
Anyone who’s had any experience with disability knows all too well that many of the most necessary products are too costly to buy outside of insurance, with prices that prey on those who need help the most. The items listed below may not be as personally tailored as costly medical devices, but they still help others make daily frustrations and debilitating conditions a little more tolerable.
Below you’ll find lowest-ever price cuts on 2023’s best-streaming OTC hearing aid and sweet savings on one of the coolest social learning toys we’ve ever tested.
These accessible and adaptive products have the potential to make a big difference for those in and around the disability community at a very low price.
1. All Sett Migraine Relief Cap
The All Sett Health Migraine Relief Cap has a one-piece wrap design that offers soothing positive compression to alleviate pounding headaches.
Migraines are the worst. If you or a loved one suffer from these severe headaches, you know how debilitating they can be. Sometimes Tylenol and blackout curtains just aren't enough. In such moments it might be worth trying something new, and we had good luck with the All Sett Migraine Relief Cap.
More of a head and face covering than a standard cap, this wearable wraps around your entire head and covers your face down to your nose. It can be put in the fridge for cold therapy or heated up if you find warm temperatures work better. The combination of temperature and the cap’s light-blocking capacity might just be the solution you need.
2. Curvd Everyday Earplugs
CURVD earplugs are a blend of sustainable fashion and function.
For those who become overstimulated by environmental noise, blocking out noise all day sounds like a dream. Unfortunately, most of us can't ever experience such a perfect reality. We still have to work, communicate, and engage with the world around us. Luckily, there are earplugs designed for situations when you feel like you’re drowning in sound.
Curvd earplugs block out only certain frequencies, which turns down the volume of ambient noise while still allowing you to be aware of your surroundings and have conversations. Curvd earplugs are our favorite earplug in this category. In our testing, we found the Everyday earplugs fit comfortably, effectively reduced noise, and even came with a cool carrying case.
Even better, Curvd is on track to become a carbon-neutral company by the end of the year.
3. Hand2mind See My Feelings Mirror
This toy doubles as a learning tool for kids who struggle with facial expressions.
For some kids, using and interpreting facial expressions with accuracy doesn't come naturally. The Hand2mind See My Feelings Mirror looks and feels like a toy, but its hidden superpower is in the picture cards that flip up above the mirror.
Each card has a child's face making an expression, and in the mirror below, the user can work to make their face match. It's a practice that helps interpret facial expressions and when learning to express oneself appropriately. And all of this functionality comes in a sturdy, super-portable toy.
4. Lego Friends Autumn’s House
This Lego Friends house set features a nature-themed doll house toy for kids ages 7+, with different rooms and four Lego Friends mini-dolls.
The world of Lego is ever-expanding, and we are happy to see it break into the realm of disabilities. The Lego Friends in this set have a variety of conditions. Some are visible, and some are simply part of a character’s backstory.
Representation of invisible disabilities is a step you don't see many companies take, largely because it's hard to do since they are, by nature, not visible. Luckily for Lego, many of its characters have intricate backstories. We love that invisible conditions like anxiety and low self-esteem are mentioned alongside the characters that come in this Autumn’s House set. There’s awesome limb difference representation here as well.
5. Skechers Men's Max Cushioning Slip-ins
The Skechers Slip-ins: Max Cushioning - Advantageous shoes are made for limitless comfort.
We love hands-free shoes at Reviewed, and the Skechers Max Cushioning Slip-ins are among the best we’ve ever tested. While these shoes don’t have the flexible heel that makes other brands extra easy to slip on, these still feel great on the feet and are made of a super-stretchy material that’s flexible enough to compensate for many foot or dexterity difficulties.
Our Senior Editor was able to quickly slide these on even while seated, which can’t necessarily be said of all adaptive footwear. These are a supportive, comfortable pair of shoes.
6. HP Hearing Pro hearing aids
These OTC hearing aids from HP have a multitude of impressive features including effective speech filters, noise cancellation, Bluetooth streaming, and more.
The HP Hearing Pros were recently ranked as our best OTC hearing aid for Bluetooth streaming, and they’re a lot cheaper than they used to be. While we’re not quite sure if this is a Black Friday sale or a recent permanent price drop, $200 in savings is huge for a pair of hearing aids that we love for its simplified setup and solid hearing enhancement.
We did have issues with this product functioning as individual hearing aids for those who may only have hearing loss on one specific side, so make note of that before you buy.
7. Amazon Echo Show (2021)
This Black Friday the Echo Show is on sale. These voice-friendly touch screens are great for seniors or those who have trouble manipulating their hands.
The hype around Echo products may not be quite what it once was, but it’s hard to ignore the super savings on this older version of the Echo Show. If you have a loved one who’s aging in place or has dexterity difficulty, this tablet can function as a voice-operated conduit to all their favorite services.
Whether you want to check the weather, listen to music, stream your favorite TV show, or even turn off the lights, this device can be the center of it all with just a few words. This product works best for someone who has many subscriptions or other smart devices in the house. Under those circumstances, this gift is capable of a lot for a very low price.
8. Sonic Alert SB1000SS Boom Alarm Clock with Bed Shaker
This alarm clock with a bed shaker usually costs a pretty penny, but it's on sale for the holiday season.
Almost everyone knows a deep sleeper who has a hard time getting out of bed. For that person in your life, the Sonic Alert Alarm Clock has emerged as a gold standard.
This alarm clock has an extra-loud, 113-dB alarm and also includes a bed shaker for those who might have trouble hearing that noise. In that regard, it’s no surprise members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community come back to this product time and time again. We’ve been watching sales of this alarm clock for years, and this just so happens to be the lowest price we’ve seen it offered.
9. Stride Rite Unisex-Child M2p Journey2 Athletic Sneaker
The Journey 2.0 Adaptable Shoe is a great fit for AFOs and braces.
Buying footwear for a kid who wears AFOs or braces is a tricky endeavor. The shoes need to be snug enough to stay on, but they also need to be wider than the average shoe to accommodate the bulky hardware. There are a few adaptive shoes on the market, but we particularly like the Stride Rite Journey 2.0 XW Adaptable Shoe.
This adaptive shoe is adjustable in several different ways, including removable layers of sole and a cut-to-fit strap closure. These shoes come in a variety of designs, and they are usually priced under $50. Adaptive products are rarely priced competitively, so this is a steal.
10. Infinity Cube
Perfect for older kids and teens, this cube transforms and folds in all kinds of ways.
While most of the products on this list are bigger-ticket items, the Infinity Cube works as a great stocking stuffer for teens or younger kids. It’s one of the most popular fidget toys on the market, which makes it a great way to maximize your child’s focus at school or around the house. Whether you’re giving to someone with sensory issues or someone who just dislikes having idle hands, this is an awesome little gift that fits almost any budget.
