The LX5 is crammed with features that photo-savvy users will love, but performance runs hot and cold.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX9 (MSRP $399.99) is an impressive camera. With stunning 12.1-megapixel photos, 1080/60i video, crisp touchscreen controls, and a wealth of auto modes, there is very little to insult.

The Pentax X90 is a solid ultrazoom camera, with strong performance and a healthy range of manual control options. It's easy enough to use, but not always the most comfortable thing to hold—making the X90 a less-than-perfect choice.

The S4000 has improvements, but so few improvements—and a handful of... un-improvements.
