Best Mini Fridge
Smeg FAB10URRD3

When you need a scaled-down version of a large appliance, you don’t want to scale down quality as well. The 4.3-cubic-foot capacity Smeg 50’s Retro Design mini-fridge is a standout for both its high-quality performance and unique aesthetics. In addition to fridge space, it also features a small freezer compartment and offers about 40% more total storage capacity than most mini-fridges.

In our recent testing, temperatures in both the fridge and freezer compartments were steady over time, meaning this model will excel at keeping food at safe temperatures and beverages perfectly chilled.

At a price point that’s higher than some full-sized refrigerators, this mini-fridge is certainly an investment, but one that performs well and looks great.

Sustainability Award
JennAir

This year, Whirlpool Brands announced its innovative new SlimTech technology, a unique way of insulating refrigerators, which replaces the industry standard polyurethane foam with Whirlpool’s proprietary vacuum insulated structure (VIS) technology, a first for the North American market.

This innovation means up to 66% thinner fridge walls, leading to significantly more room to store food inside, and also allows the refrigerator to operate up to 50% more efficiently, running its compressor less often, all while reducing temperature swings that can happen when opening the door during normal use.

And, with a nod to Mother Earth, the SlimTech insulation is much easier to recycle and reuse than the polyurethane foam currently used to insulate refrigerators. While JennAir fridges will show off SlimTech first, consumers can expect to see it across JennAir and select KitchenAid fridges soon.

The impact of this refrigerator innovation on energy savings and recyclable materials represents a big step forward in appliance sustainability.
