The Audien Atom Pros are our favorite over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids for people who have mild-to-moderate hearing loss and want a simple, app-free experience without a hearing test. But a new generation of the product has recently released with improvements that may make it a noteworthy successor.
The Audien Atom 2 Series builds off of the previous model and even takes steps to correct a few issues we had with the first build.
The series features two versions: the Audien Atom 2 and Atom Pro 2, with a suggested retail pricing of $189 and $289, respectively. That’s thousands less than prescription hearing aids.

Both models offer benefits like a longer battery life of 20-24 hours, an upgraded A2 hearing chip, a 2-in-1 UV cleaning case, and a comfort-focused redesign. A notable improvement is the addition of a large button that allows wearers to change listening modes and volume levels. This feature is present on both the Atom 2 and the Atom Pro 2. Previously, these common adjustments required the use of a separate tool.
These listening modes are tailored to fit four environment-based scenarios and appear to be similar to what’s offered by many app-focused OTC hearing aids today:
Conversation mode: Ideal for general use.
Noisy environment mode: Perfect for bustling locations.
Road vehicle mode: Ideal for traveling or commutes.
Outdoor mode: Suited for nature or park visits.
Those who opt to pay $289 for the Atom Pro 2 model receive these exclusive benefits:
The included carrying case stores three additional charges for times when an outlet isn’t available.
The case also has UV-cleaning features that claim to kill 99.9% of bacteria.
Background noise cancelation aims to improve the listening experience.
The Atom Pro 2 is 15% smaller than the base version, for those who prefer a more discreet style.
Overall, the Audien Atom 2 Series sounds like a promising new addition to the growing OTC hearing aid landscape. We love that this brand continues to lean into the fact that smartphone apps aren’t necessarily required to offer users a solid, affordable hearing experience.
These products fall short of offering a complex hearing test with self-fitting capability to match one’s specific hearing profile, but especially for people who’ve used hearing aids before, many of those fine-tuned adjustments can likely be made manually without concern.
At a price that’s relatively unchanged from that of the original Audien Atom hearing aid series, these hearing aids look like a great potential purchase for someone with a more old-school mindset who doesn’t like fiddling with smartphones.
We haven’t tested the Atom 2 Series yet, but that’s something we hope to do in the months ahead. Those waiting for coverage with Reviewed Accessibility staff expertise should stay tuned!
